Pop Quiz: Headgear

Get ready for your pop quiz, kids! Your one-day quick-fire challenge is:

Make an awesome headgear piece in HM3!

Whether it be Viking inspired horned battle helms or modern European flower hats or futuristic space goggles, be creative, mix several different pieces together, and come up with something neat and original.

You only get one entry -- that's right, just one! So make it your best.

Most of the other rules are the same as for a regular contest, but instead of a whole week I'll announce the winner either tonight or first thing in the morning.

  • All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like ImageShack, PhotoBucket, the UGO Forums, whatever);
  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your files as [your name]-[character name].[file extension]. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his "Bayou Belle" character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). If you see "preview" or "rotate" somewhere in the link you're probably doing it wrong.

The winner will receive their choice of either one item or one portrait to be included in the final HeroMachine 3 release, or one Sketch of the Day style drawing where you pick the subject and I draw it how I like.

Good luck!

Quick question, if it’s not completely head-covering, would you like us to have the head showing underneath?

  2. Jeff Hebert says:

Absolutely, feel free to include the head.

  3. FRM says:

    Macabre Goblin Helm
(made entirely of shoulders, except the gradients)

  4. MScat says:

This is a modern design for the Shredder’s helmet from TMNT. Or it could be just a samurai helmet 😉

  5. sivad96 says:

This headgear is called the brain. It has all of the smartest peoples cells in the world in it so once someone puts this on they have all the information ever learned in their brain. but once they put it on, it cant come off becuz u instantly fuse with the brain.

  6. Vampyrist says:

This is a helmet of a Daxan, an old warfaring race. The helmet allows them to breathe in any atmosphere.

  7. Lime says:

Okay, so this is really simple, but it’s Cinco de Mayo and a They Might Be Giants reference, how could I resist?

  8. Haxxx5 says:

A steampunk gas-mask, probably be used as part of a Steampunk Kamen Rider along with a belt

  9. Tarkabarka says:

My entry for this contest. To tell the truth i love this type of contests.

    Power Armor Helmet

  10. MLS says:

This is too weird. I’m playing in a RPG with a modern setting and all the PCs met through the Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA). The GM wanted a sword fighting game set in the modern world. My character is an amateur metal fabricator, and just crafted himself an elaborate eagle-themed viking helmet. Well, obviously I had to draw it up in HM and submit to this contest. I’m going to point out that I had to make it SCA legal, hence the elaborate face protection.

  11. NHA247 says:

    Here is my entry.

Its a helmet that absorbs the enemy after it has been defeated and creates an aura that uses the defeated enemies power. The user of the helmet is rendered blind while the eye in the middle takes control.

    Thank you!

  12. Skybandit says:

Howzabout a side view of an existing piece of headgear?

  13. LoneWolf6155 says:

Presenting the next generation of combat pilot helmets. The Mk. 17A!

  14. LoneWolf6155 says:

Oops I forgot to rename my file. Do I have to upload again?

  15. Solander says:

Been a long while since I’ve last visited heromachine. So, just for good old times sake, here’s a future-based space helmet:

  16. Tarkabarka says:

Oops I forgot to rename my file.Do I have to upload again?

Sure i think no problem that if you only change a name.

Here is a correctly named version of my entry.

  23. Xair says:

I know, technically it’s past 12:00, but I really wanted to post this 😉

  24. Drow Ceremonial Guard

It looks heavy but it’s made of mithral. The helmet can adorn the wings only if the wearer killed the fairy himself.

  25. demonhunter says:

I think of this as a futuristic piece for a soldier who has been injured with additional high tech bits. The neckpiece is of course attached, and it contains the power source for the whole device.

  26. Jeremy Thurlow says:

I kind of like that pic you put for this Pop Quiz. I just could not come up with a name for this mask.

  27. iGusta13 says:

This is my first time joining..

Golden Hell – This helmet contains gold which came from hell. The Generals of the Hell wear this to protect its head from injuries

  28. Trekkie says:

Some sort of mask/helmet for use in atmospheres with high amounts of non-breathable gases, or wherever there are toxic gases:

  29. Ximero says:

Have it from me, too 😉

Ceremonial royal mask of Queen Mosch’epsut IV, from the Second Dynasty. Zazzu’Wat, The Hive Homeworld, circa 5470 CY.

  30. dblade says:

Hey, Mad Doctor. One more rule to be read. Only one entry per Machinist. I think Jeff will probably take the first one posted but you might want to point out which one is the official entry.

  31. Myro says:

Oh man, this was due today? Well, I could always throw something together at the last minute. What do I have around the house?

Okay, so the goal was to make a cool piece of headgear, and I came up with a do-it-yourself project to make yourself look like a Jack Kirby character. You know, like Galactus or Orion. Yeah, I think this will work. Doesn’t look at all like I put this together in 10 minutes before the school bell.

Okay, in all seriousness, I was a little busy with my SODWA entry, and I couldn’t come up with anything at all for this week’s pop quiz. I don’t expect I’ll win, I just hope it gets a laugh or two.

  32. Ximero says:

    Pure win, Myro 😀 Brilliant!

  33. Mad Doctor says:

    Mad Doctor:
Sorry. Didnt read the rules. Here my works with right names.

  35. WeepingAngel23 says:

The Mk.IV High altitude flight helmet, for deep space travelling.

  36. WeepingAngel23 says:

    D’oh!, Wrong link type
    http://i.imgur.com/8aeuq.png should work.
And I’ve decided to reclassify it as a primitive extra-terrestrial saucer helmet.
The government archive code names it: A51:H18:Helm5

  37. Jeff Hebert says:

OK folks, contest closed, judging in just a bit!

Welcome to our first-timers and welcome BACK to Solander!
