This week's Sharing Day topic is:
If you could be any character in the entire Star Wars extended universe (movies, books, comics, cartoons, whatever), who would you be and why?
If you like, in return for answering my question to you, you may ask a question of me on any topic and I'll do my best to answer honestly and completely. Just leave your reply (and question, if any) as a comment. The goal is to learn a little more about our community and to put some positive vibes out there on this Spring Break-like Friday!
As for me and my answer to this question ... I'm tempted to be boring and go with Han Solo, who gets to be both footloose and fancy free as well as being a Prince. What's not to love about that?! On the other hand, he's got a history of running bad risks, and that kind of person might not be happy stuffed into the role of politician. So I think I'd probably go with being even MORE boring and choose Luke Skywalker. The idea of being able to start the Jedi Academy over again and doing it right is appealing, and of course there's all the Force stuff. Plus I look stellar in black.
Now, over to you!
I would have to choose Revan! Granted you have to deal with your former apprentice trying to have you killed and later you disappear without a trace. Other then that you are one of the most powerful Jedi there was who crushed the Mandalorians, and who nearly brought the republic to its knees if not for a little case of Amnesia which set him back on the path of the light.
george lucas: so i could not make those awful prequels! seriously though i only consider the original trilogy to even exist. so im gonna say han solo… who else? Hokey religions and ancient weapons are no match for a good blaster at your side, kid.
Damn! Kaldath also choose Revan. My second choose is the Jedi Exile in the same era. J.E. is also a strong jedi, who knows what will be choose. He fights Revan side, and the Jedi Council exile him, because they fear to choose Revan path, but he stay in the light, and go after to find Revan. He stand the way what he choose, and don’t kneel down for the jedi council. He knows needs a little sacrifice to find the biggest good.
Mitth’raw’nuruodo (a.k.a. Grand Admiral Thrawn). I’ve been 100% in love with him since reading Outbound Flight. Coolest Imp officer, and a military genious… Too bad he made one fatal mistake and got killed by his own bodyguard, but otherwise, yeah, I’d love to be him.
No doubt, Boba Fett (as a kid I slaved away to send in the UPCs for the “mystery action figure” who was Boba Fett – who at the time was an unknown factor and very B.A.) If not the Fett then Alec Guinness’ Obi Wan; no offense Ewan but you are no Alec Guinness, buddy.
Obi-Wan Kenobi.
Had a great (and sexy) master Qui Gonn,
Had many adventures and a long life.
Never turned to the Dark Side.
Died on his own terms.
OK so he trianed young Darth Vader who helped the Emoperer kill the Jedi and raise to power, but nothing could have stipped the Prophecey.
One thing people forget about Balance … Evil has to have just as much it’s day as good does. Bringing a Balance to the Force, when Good is already top dog can only mean one thing …
@Jeff – Did you get my Character contest prize request?
I saw your post about the separated satyr legs, and responded that I needed more information on how you wanted them posed and such.
R2-D2: I could use the tools.
Yeah, I’ve made no secret that Han Solo is kind of my role model. I mean, general man of daring-do, kicking butt, flying around in the coolest ship in the galaxy, your best friend is like a hyper-intelligent cross between a border collie and a tree sloth, and you end up with Leia? Where do I sign up?
Can’t think of a question now, maybe later.
I thought about going with R2. But since droids aren’t considered sentient citizens (or are they?), I thought it would be a drag being at the mercy of whoever happened to own you at the time.
But yeah, the tools would be nice.
Right now I’m thinking the two-headed racing commentator from Episode 1. Mostly because everybody says “WTH is that” when they see him, and then forget about him completely forever.
Though who I would *want* to be is Yoda. Small, weird guy who talks in a weird way, but can still kick your ass when you’re not looking at him.
Palpatine. Come on, I think we’d all trade some looks to rule the galaxy. Plus, screw those whiney Skywalker brats, Star Wars all about Palps.
On the topic of evil, whose you favorite movie villian?
As in, any villain in any movie ever? Or are we limiting ourselves to geeky fare?
You’d have to say Heath Ledger’s Joker is a pretty freaking awesome villain in any sense. Crazed yet controlled, it was a fantastic performance and role.
I liked Salieri from “Amadeus”, though I don’t know that “villain” is the exact right word for him. I feel so much sympathy for him, but of course ultimately he commits grave wrongs.
I think “Who’s your favorite movie villain” is a great topic, everyone feel free to jump in!
Probably the EU Boba Fett, considering the movies made him look like a push-over, plus he has the same personality as me. If not him, Booster Terrik, since he’s very similar to the character I made for one of my worlds whose name I go under, Captain Kicktar.
I’d have to go with Kyle Katarn. Ace Pilot, a great deal of investigation and counterintelligence skills, and Jedi Master.
A clone trooper like Rex or Cody!(without beeing old) He has many friends!
Darth maul, because he was different and a bad ass! Jeff are you playing any good games right now?
Sadly, no. Just “Words With Friends”. I haven’t even opened Skyrim yet I’ve been so crazy going back and forth between Austin and Durango.
I would be Lando Carissian, of course. Smooooooth.
CALrissian. Apparently the edit and deletion functions don’t work on Firefox 11 for Mac.
George Lucas, so I could kill myself after shooting Steven Spielberg to make up for the utter rubbish those two have inflicted on humanity.
Barbario’s “George Lucas” answer FTFW!
I’ll go with Wedge Antilles, personally. Gets to be in all the good movies, does all the exciting stuff, and gets away with it – pretty remarkable for a non-major character who really should be cannon fodder.
Favourite Movie Villain? Blofeld, I think. Circa “You Only Live Twice”. Volcano Hideout! A Piranha Pit for disposing of incompetent minions! Remote controlled machine guns for blowing away Ninjas! It doesn’t get cooler than that. Although Khan from “Star Trek: The Wrath of Khan” is pretty good, too..
Nick Fury. Dammit, I meant Shaft. Dammit, I meant Master Windu.
My question to Jeff is. I know you are not playing anything now but have you ever tried playing Dungeons and Dragons Online ?
I want to say Darth Vader, and as much as I still like the prequels, if there was one thing about the franchise they ruined for me, actually, that would be midichlorians. But if there was a second thing they did to ruin Star Wars, it was turning ultimate franchise villain Darth Vader from a ruthless embodiment of evil with the barest spark of humanity into a sad, petulant man-child. Vader still ranks up there, but…
My first choice would be Keyser Soze from The Usual Suspects.. If you’ve seen the movie (especially if you’ve seen it more than once) you might understand my reasoning, but if you haven’t, then me explaining it will spoil the entire movie.
My other choice is Khan Noonien Singh. What? Star Wars Guy is going with a Trek villain? Well, first of all, who doesn’t love some Wrath of Khan? That’s still one of the more exciting, thrilling immensely quotable sci-fi movies ever. And second, once you see the parallels between Wrath of Khan and Moby Dick, then it’s easy to follow Khan’s Ahab-esque obsession with destroying Kirk at any cost.
Favorite Movie Villian
I not only love satyrs but LOVE vampires too
DRACULA!
Literary
or
Bela,
Christofer Lee
Frank Laangella
Gary Olman …
I mean animal forms,
fog form
command vermin, wolves, weather, people
Spider Climb up walls
immortal
super senses, reflesxes, strength
and if your are real Dracula able to be in sunlight, just weaker than normal
Dracula is so kewl, and no matter how many times ya kill him, he always comes back so sup on sweet young things.
true I would probably be Gayracula ….
:)=
at one point I had MANY copies of Dracula, trying to get every different cover I could get of the book.
I had to sell them but kept my first, (now batterd and without the dustjacket) brown hardback and The Annotated Dracula.
I even had my own mini Dracula pilgrimage:
When I went to reland in 2099 I took my old copy or Dracula with me
I saw Bram Stoker’s birthplace I got my pic at his door with my copy of Dracula,.
Trinity college where he went to school
his bachelor pad
and the Church he was married at
The week we went was One Book One City program focusing on Dracula
and Bram’s great great great grandson was on the radio talking about it,
I even got a paperback copy of Dracula at the airport with the One Book One City sticker on it and a price of 7.99 Euroes.
@Jeff what do you do for a living now?
I’d be Jar Jar Binks… That way, I could make him less irritating. ‘Nuff said.
As for my question: I have an unfinished concept-art type drawing of a member of a race I’m including in the game I’m making, and the reason it’s unfinished is due to my inability to think of a way to draw the folds on her clothing. I know I’ve asked you for advice on this before, but I’m completely stuck, and honestly, I don’t even know where to start as far as describing what I’m going for or what the problem is… I’m just stuck. I was wondering if, perhaps, I could upload the unfinished picture, and maybe you could help me out? This is really something that would fit more on Open Critique Day, but I have no other questions at this time.

Look at my name.
Now back to this post.
Now back to my name.
Now back to this post.
Now that you are reading this in the Old Spice Guy’s voice, I would of course choose to be Corran Horn, X-Wing pilot and Jedi extraordinaire. He gets to be a part of the best fighter squadron of the Star Wars universe, manages to get the daughter of a smuggler his father chased around Corellia, can use the force, and have a good sense of humor.
My question for you, Jeff (or anyone who wishes to answer) is what class would you recommend to a new player to start off with in D&D? I’ve finally decided to take the plunge into full nerdom and play with a friend, and I don’t know where to start, so any advice would be much appreciated.
He would be my back-up guy. It sucks that I’ve only seen him in Jedi Academy. I never got the chance to play any of the Dark Forces games or Jedi Outcast.
If you’re new to the system, go with Fighter. If you’re playing 4th edition, I’d start with an Essentials Slayer or Knight (Fighter Subclasses), though some DM’s might not allow Essentials material on account of it being too different. The fighter in most editions of DnD basically just hits things, which is simple enough that you’re not overwhelmed while trying to get used to the rules, except in non-Essentials 4th edition where all the classes seem to blend together after a while, in which case, the Fighter is still simpler, just to a much lesser degree.
I hate to pick the boring answer, but I’d want to be Han. You get the whole moral ambiguity thing while still doing the right thing. That and he is pretty awesome.
My question is how are various contest prizes going?
Hopefully I’m not being too pushy, but I think after five months without any word, I can be a bit curious.
@Jeff, yeah I understand, my kids and job keep me busy so I dont get much time to play except for an hour when I get home from work or untill my wife wakes up and makes me come to bed LOL Oh another character that would be cool to be is the main guy from the force unleashed, I like those games. Im playing Mass Effect 2 right now, I have played 1 and I want 3 after I am done with 2.
I choose the lazy and cowardly way out by choosing my own character that I created for The Old Republic; Debochira, Jedi Guardian with a yellow lightsaber blade and with the RotJ Luke hairdo and blue eyes. But since the story mode allows only three paths to follow, Light, Neutral, and Dark, I am also a 100% Good Jedi. Unoriginal, maybe, but it’s something I’m familiar with and really, really like.
Here’s my question, and I’d REALLY like to stress that I am NOT criticizing; for most of the weapons, blades and blades two mostly, why are there models that are all of the individual pieces fit together? Wouldn’t it be easier to just delete the complete models so that there’d be more room for more sword parts and whatnot?
Digging into the EU for this one. If I could only be one Star Wars character, there’s no one in my mind but Jaina Solo. Sword of the Jedi, member of Rogue Squadron, and, last but not least, Harrison Ford would be my dad! She was my favorite character by far of the new generation of Jedi, and her strength and pragmatism was always something of an inspiration to me.
Obi-wan all the way! Smart, tough, sarcastic and always does the right thing. Awesome character and role model.
Question – You know me. Always looking for info on new items and what not. How’s business? Any goals in the next 3 months?
My vote is also for Lando Calrissian… Not only is he smooth, suave, and debonair, he’s amazingly rich (and real good at making all the money he’s just lost back in a surprising hurry), and also the guy who produced the YVHK (Yuuzhan Vong Hunter Killer) droids for the New Republic…
Also, NOT being a Jedi is a definite plus, most of the time, in that Universe!
I’m with Debochira on this one: I have a Jedi Shadow I main on SWTOR (that I will replace once they release the Cathar as an expansion species).
Other than that though, my role models from the SW mythos are Revan, Jolee Bindo, and Qui Gon Jinn. They prove that you don’t have to follow the code to be a fully lightside Jedi. Plus Jolee is just funny as hell. JS.
Kir Kanos is, and likely always shall be, my favorite Star wars character. If you have read Crimson Empire and said otherwise then you sir or madam are lying to yourself.
I haven’t, no. I have to admit that my appetite for games has waned the last few years. It’s kind of sad for me 🙁
I’m a program manager. Exciting!
Wow, I don’t know that I can do a whole folded cloth tutorial, that’s a complicated subject. The best I can say is to get a book on drawing clothing (I have one here somewhere) and go through it, look at existing clothing, even get something similar in real life and drape it so you can do life sketches.
It’s been too long since I’ve played D&D so I am a bad person to give advice on this, other than they should play whatever sounds fun. Have them describe the kinds of things they like to envision themselves doing and fit that into one of the classes.
I think modern D&D gets way too caught up in mechanics and not nearly enough into just doing what’s fun. If you make a guy you don’t like, scrap it and start over. No big whoop.
I feel horrible it’s been that long. I’ve got lots of excuses, all of which are useless. I’ll try to start on them tomorrow.
For ease of use. I don’t want people to have to figure out the multiples thing, I want the option to always be there for the more casual user to just be one click away from what they want. The broken up bits are for the more advanced people. It’s better to have both.
Yes, I want to have a downloadable version very soon that you can purchase so you don’t have to be online to use it.
@ Jeff. Any idea how much the downloadable version will cost?
Oh, forgot my question.
I think this is a good one: What is your personal opinion of Bioware’s handling of ME3’s ending/Day one DLC situation (if you have played the game that is)?
Corran Horn? be the healer. The others will protect you. Uh, guys? DEFINITELY r2d2. The swiss-army body would be nice, but if the force were ever with a machine . . . survive a direct laser hit from Vader, outlive everybody for six movies except maybe Yoda. Always have c3p0 around for a giggle. Get away with doing whatever no matter who owns you. Be pivotal and get to see it all without wearing the bullseye. Jeff? which main Trek character would you replace or “delete” from all the canon?
I would probably have to choose… Dash Rendar. Cool ship, elite skills, good friends/allies, awesome adventures, cool jetpack, and… Yeah. I never read the book for Shadows of the Empire, and I don’t know if the character dies at any given point, but the character from the old N64 game was awesome.
Jeff, based purely on personality, would you consider yourself a sword, a hammer, or the mid-ground – an axe?
Not sure, really … probably in the $10-$20 range like with HM2.
I haven’t played the game, Tuldabar, so I can’t really say. But I have read the letter from the CEO and I thought that was pretty great.
Tasha Yar! Gad, but I hated that character AND the performance of Denise Crosby playing her. Blech!
I’m an axe, baby, because I smell so gooooood!
Hm….Wedge Antilles. Sure his early life was horrible, but the Rogue Squadron games put him through a lot of strange adventures, like flying a Buick. Either that, or T3-M4. He was Revan and the Jedi Exile’s equivalent to R2D2.Juno Eclipse is also to be envied, her boyfriend literally came back from the dead to be with her again.
Outcast is great! I like Academy too, but I’ve only played it once.
I’ve never read the Star Wars EU or played the RPG or the home video games. I so rocked on the original Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back arcade games. Remember those! Stick figure graphics, baby!
So, with the experience of just the movies, 1980s cartoons, and the oft-forgotten Christmas Specials, I would go with Han Solo. A rogue who develops a conscience yet maintains a “man of mystery” quality.
Favorite villain? Roy Batty from Bladerunner. He is more of an anti-hero, though.
No question this week.
I pretty surprised few people have said this, but I’d be Chewy!
Super strong, engineering talents, nobody will ever mess with you, and you always win every board game you play. IT’s a win-win-win-win scenario!
best movie villain? prince humperdinck!
THANK YOU, there wasn’t enough Chewy love around here. Yes I would be the walking carpet, cuz that walking carpet is the single most awesome and loyal creature in the star wars universe.
Personally, I will choose Padme. The gowns alone are enough for me to overlook her tragic death, and (from what little I’ve seen of the Universe) she’s a pretty strong woman who holds her own. I would rethink my taste in men though if I could ever be her.
I would be Leia…because Harrison Ford is hot. 😉
I’d be Anakin Skywalker anyday. I liked him when I was younger and I will never stop liking him.
