As you can tell, UGO has become interested in what more they can do to get people excited about HeroMachine, which is great in all kinds of ways. One of the ideas we're floating (still very much just an idea at this point) is to have "Artist Collections", item sets designed and drawn by specific comic book illustrators. So for instance, you might get a bunch of sets designed by "Invincible" artist Ryan Ottley, or Rob Liefeld (ha!), or Bryan Hitch of the Ultimates, etc.
Would that be interesting to you? If so, what current comics artists would you most want to see put together their own HM sets?
Yes that would be awesome and basically any comic artist would be awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brilliant idea! Any comic artist would be just as good. Ok, maybe not Rob Liefeld. ;-P
That would be really cool and would attract more attention to the program. The thing that excites me is the possibility of getting even more tools to play with. As for possible artists, Frank Quitely and J.H. Williams are currently my two favorites and it would be phenomenal if we could get these two.
Jim Lee, Mark Silvestri and Mike Deodato (he made fantastic costume on Thunderbolt).
Hrrmmm Sounds good, but I’d want to see it first 🙂
Definetly no Liefield.
But I’m not familiar enough with the current crop of Comic Illustrators – by name anyway. I’ll troll around some of my fav art, and see if I can come up with some names.
I propose limit the operation to three artists :
– A classic super hero comic book artist
– A fantasy artist
– A Scifi artist
Don Heck.
Bryan Hitch, John Cassaday, Simone Bianchi.
Sounds great to me! I would love to see something designed by Rich Buckler, Steve Ditko, etc. How about getting some professional comic book artists to judge the character contests?
Sounds great, STAN LEE! Jk Btw
mr. Geoff Johns, stan lee, mr. kirby and mr. ditko.
@JR: Have you seen any of Geoff Johns artwork? Trust me, we can do better than that.
Adam Hughes: The pinup king
I think that would be a fantastic idea. Hopefully they could bring in folks from different publishers.
This sounds like a good idea to me. I had another idea however. What if users could send in drawings for various possible entries, and you could choose among them to re-finish if you want to and add into the program. User made content would make this program even more amazing than it already is!
Oh and btw, it would be pretty cool if one of the guest artists was one of the guys from Darkhorse. Those guys are part of one of my favourite publishers.
@boomcow2 (#15): Heck, you can do that NOW! I’d be happy to take any suggestions and, if they’re good, include them in the app.
how about hammerknight; what would better then one of our own helping out heromachine
You ought to have Juan Jose Ryp do some background slots; have you seen how insanely detailed his stuff is? 😀
how bout stan lee
@Kyle: Hmm. I didn’t realize HK was a comic book illustrator…
Take it as a sincere compliment or a blatant case of ass-kissing, but Jeff your work, thus far, has been top-notch in HM3 and I’m sure you could “imitate” certain art styles if you so desired (…it works for Greg Land apparently). However, if this publicity stunt works, then I wouldn’t mind seeing some Hitch items based on the Ultimates. Or Ethan Van Sciver items based on Green Lantern. Now Jeff, would these copy written items be permitted if done by these artists?
You guys realize Stan Lee was the WRITER and not the ARTIST, right … ? Man, I feel old.
As long as I’m shooting for the moon, how about Alex Ross (yeah, I know…), John Cassaday, and George Perez? 😉
Oh, and if you could get Jack “King” Kirby and Dick Giordano…
{Hey, it’s the “Brightest Day”, isn’t it?} 😀
I like the idea of getting professional artist attached to the program in one way or another. I’d take care, to make sure the program, stays within your vision and control, so it’s not all over the place, and torn asunder, because everyone claims legal ownership. If professional artist did create items for the program, they would probably be interested in keeping an eye open, to see how their stuff is used. Art and items aside, think of the possibilities that could bring about. Maybe a character created by one of us could influence the next big thing! Just a bit of wishful thinking.
William, I’m digging your “Brightest Day” choices there. I have to add one to the list: Graham “Ghastly” Ingels.
Great idea, Jeff! My picks would be: Jim Lee, Andy Kubert, Adi Granov (sp?), John Cassaday, Greg Horn, Doug Mahnke (sp?), Terry and Rachel Dobson, David Finch, Bryan Hitch, Alex Ross and Todd MacFarlane.
I also have a suggestion: instead of limiting this to comic book artists, how about getting fantasy artists and art students on board as well? Perhaps you could go even further and ask for public submissions on Facebook, forums, etc or advertise in mags like Wizard, on radio etc.
To go further still, everyone here could pass the word on to their friends and so on. Word of mouth goes a long, long way.
I second the impossible choice of Alex Ross. He’s phenomenal.
Marko Djurdejevic has realised tons of cover but he is also one of the principal concept artist and character designer of Marvel. He has concepted the costume of Pennance and the design of the Guardians of Galaxy and others.
What everybody else said. I think it’s a great idea.
Not sure it would work with Adam Hughes. At least, if you do it for his status as a pinup artist. Because his bodies would require a whole new set of items, wouldn’t they? Maybe for faces.
BUT, I do agree that it’s a cool idea. See who you can get!
YES! YES! YES!
Just make sure there is a good spread between classic superhero, fantasy, scifi, and the like.
Wow, I come back and find a great post afer a long hiatus!
I agree with Boomcow, Dark Horse artists would be my specific pick.
I like the idea, and I would love to see George Perez and/or John Byrne.
