CDC #430 – Keeping Up With The Krustaceans!

Your challenge this week is to create an original shelled alien character that resides on a planet completely covered in water.

The winner this week will receive a Heromachine 3 version of their winning character designed by me. Not the greatest award, but better than a fish hook to the eye!

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

Enter as often as you like!

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, Deviant Art or whatever);Do not use Photobucket.

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, September 15th.

  1. Can it be “armored”? Like an armor shell?

    As long as the shell is a part of the character – not just an added piece or part of a costume

  3. Avatar ForgivenMonster

    My submission this week is a female warrior from an aquatic army. Her race has developed hard, shell armor to protect themselves in battle. They are also proficient in trident combat and adorn themselves with additional rare metal armor to show their prowess in battle. They wear carved bone necklaces made from the remains of their slain enemies as intimidation in battle.

  5. Teramet

    An eel like creature from the water planet Dexeris

    Its body is encased in a thick boney armor, with sharp blade like protrusions, and a alligator type tail that gives it great speed. It has three sets of eyes for detecting the slightest movement, and the red elongated orbs on the sides of its head are heat sensing organs.

  6. An undersea warrior is only as good as his borrowed shells when hit by a predator. Pictured here is a mating pair fighting off a ‘crocsigore’ while mating. It’s the only time their females are fertile. In the background is shown one of their clan’s ships, complete with three visible, fully loaded pearl cannons. Their proms tend to get a bit rough on the local sea life. This particular lover’s lane is swept clear of foliage, to make sure there’s no cover to prolong killing their predators.
