CDC #405 – Two Great Tastes – Grim Reaper Edition!

Ok guys, it’s time to resurrect the Two Great Tastes style contest this week. This week, your main theme is the Grim Reaper and your challenge is to mix that with any genre you like, whether it be Sci-fi, Fantasy, Superhero, Western, Martial Arts, Horror, Anime, whatever.  Just be creative and have fun!

Enter as often as you wish.

This week’s winner will receive a HM3 rendering of their winning character, designed by me.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, Deviant Art or whatever);Do not use Photobucket.

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, March 17th.

Not everyone likes death, many even fear him. But he’s really a nice guy overall. One thing he likes to do is keep count of the things that are often said to him. He is kind and compassionate and very understanding. And all he wants you to do is step into the light.

I might do two submissions for this.

“There’s a reason as to why Rhoxulers prefer to die in battle. The ill and the bedridden know full well what awaits them once they can no longer put off sleep. Trapped in a dark forest of their own mind’s creation, they are motivated by only one thought: ‘RUN’.
For they know what hunts them in the hellscape of their feverish dreams… The Night Mare, the Pale Rider, the Grim Reaper… If it catches them, they never wake up. Those who do survive the night know their best hope is to heal, as no one escapes the spectre indefinitely.
Alas, dying in battle, in the comfort of one’s sane mind, with only a glimpse of the fiend as they perish from exsanguination, is infinitely preferable than the madness of surviving the hunt in delirium.”

  5. My entry this week is the future’s version of the Grim Reaper. The Grim Reaper has been tied to his deed of ushering the souls of the passed to the afterlife for thousands of years. Until one day in the year 2175 a soldier lay dying on the battlefield. As the Grim Reaper approaches him the soldier pleads to not be taken from this world, and in return the soldier will allow the Grim Reaper to free himself from his immortal role by taking up the mantle of new Grim Reaper, thus allowing the current version’s soul the ability to finally move on. He agrees and the soldier’s soul is imbued with the power and responsibility of the Grim Reaper and trapped forever within the armor that once protected his mortal life.

    Pregunta:

If I use something like ms paint or photoshop to combine images made in heromachine onto a larger canvas (i.e. using copy & paste to get a bigger character or multiple characters onto one image) without using any of the tools in that program, would it be breaking the rules?

I want to do a large, wide format image of Grim Death The Reaper gathering his harvest.

Here is my version. went with an old school 1950’s gentleman reaper. He has good manners and etiquette and carries himself with pride. he is well spoken but when someone makes him angry he will tear off their skin and feed them their own entrails.

  9. You’re correct. The rules above state ” Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine”

Pretty sure that question was for me. Actually as long as all characters, backgrounds and effects are done with HM3, using a photo editing program to combine those characters is acceptable. What we do not want is people bumping up their special effects or characters using something other than HM3. Technically it is no different than using MS Paint to crop a HM image, which is completely acceptable.

  12. This character has been with me since 2012 and one of my faves. He is my Batman/Punisher type on Planet AMS. I don’t think I have entered THE REAPER in any other contest due to the renamed files I save to keep track. If he has, forgive me….
