Character Design Challenge ♯163- The Armour Wars

So as one of the stipulations of last weeks contest was no armour or protective gear, guess what this weeks contest is.Yup, this week I want you to design the best suit of armour you can. You can do anything from medieval fantasy, through modern police riot gear, to a sci-fi storm-trooper like protective suit (though obviously not a storm-trooper suit, that's copyright).

Also, because I obviously didn't make this clear last week, I AM ONLY JUDGING THE COSTUME YOU PRODUCE. NO FACES, NO NON-STANDARD POSES AND NO BACKGROUNDS. Hair is only allowed if it is part of the costume. That is all.

As per usual, no limits on the number of entries and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

    You say you aren’t judging on faces, poses, ect., but can we add them anyway, just to make a complete character?

  2. Xinmodic says:

    Will shading count or simply the armour design?

    My entry for the “Armor Wars” contest. His name is “Knightron” and is a Queen’s Knight in a future kingdom society with medieval cultural influence. Blending the medieval with the future in look, Knightron has armor that is reminiscent of medieval armor, but more future tech with the plasma light sword and shield.

    Dreikhskull armor. Powerful, intimidating, one of its kind.

    Let me preface this by saying: Yes, he is based on the character of the “Shredder” from the TMNT genre, but is not one of the cannonical Shredders that have appeared. He is part of a fan concept I have been working on, but if this is too derivative I completely understand.

    I give you: Oroku Haigo, the Amalgam Shredder: http://i295.photobucket.com/albums/mm156/Tuldabar/Amalgam%20Shredder_zpsv2v1ohdo.png

  6. Suleman says:

    Question: So faces in general and alternate poses are completely forbidden, or will not be part of the judgement criteria?

  7. JR19759 says:

    @Hawk007 & Suleman- Faces are allowed but not factored in to the judging (only because people have been putting facial features onto their characters despite me saying no faces, so what the hell), poses aren’t.
    @Xinmodic- Shading counts.

  8. Xinmodic says:

    dang, not too good at that, ill giv it my best try nontheless

  12. Worf says:

    @JR (et all) Are any of you guys going to do a writeup on Batman V Superman?

  13. JR19759 says:

    @Worf- Not from me. I personally don’t really want to go and see it after they show the entire plot of the film in a single trailer. What’s the point? Clark Kent meets Bruce Wayne, normal Superman/ Batman light vs dark hero convo, Superman/ Batman fight for reasons (probably not going to be explained very well in the film because DC movie), Wonder Woman turns up because Justice League movie shilling, Lex Luthor creates Doomsday, DC trinity vs Doomsday, Justice League, yay. That’s about the whole movie right? Plus some cameos. Suicide Squad I may go and see because a) I want to see if I can spot djuby in the credits and b) they haven’t ruined the entire story of the movie in the trailers yet. And Cap: Civil War as well, because they did the trailer right (hype, hype, Black Panther, hype, hype, more Black Panther, more hype, Spider-Man, fanspaz).

    I haven’t seen it yet, I usually wait several weeks after opening day to see the movie as with my introverted nature I hate crowds. After I go see it I may or may not write a review not sure. I had considered writing one after I watched Deadpool but didn’t end up doing one, so no promises. If anyone wants to write a review just drop me a line and I can post it for you.

    Here is my entry for this contest. Sorry about the face and hair, JR. Couldn’t resist filling it in. Cheers!

  16. Worf says:

    @JR: I URGE you to go see it. They definitely DO NOT show all the plot in the trailer and it is WAY grander than the trailers make it out to be. I was left very much thinking it was going to be an ok, if somewhat disappointing, movie after watching the 11 minute supercut trailer, but left the theater like a screaming fangirl in front of her favorite boy band. I don`t mean to gush, but I`m actually thinking of going to watch it again.

    @Kaldath, shoot me your e-mail, and I probably will write a way more level (less fanboy) review in two parts (spoiler free and spoilerific for the people that want the juicy details)….

  17. Herr D says:

    Ouch. The only way I could resist putting in everything else was to delete it all out! Lucky thing you said you’re judging the armor whether it’s on or not.

    I made this before the contest, hence the face and background. Might make a story for it later, if I can be arsed. Which I probably can’t.

    Has anyone of you recently heard of Jeff? Tried to contact him a few days ago and still haven’t heard back from him …

    I am friends with him on Facebook, and apparently he is in the process of moving, I will send him a message through facebook and let him know you are trying to reach him.

  25. Tuldabar says:

    Oh man I feel so OUTCLASSED.

  26. djuby says:

    Onset wardrobe for three weeks. Ran the costume trailer, worked with continuity on the shoot in downtown Toronto. Basically just made sure people were wearing what they were supposed to be wearing. Have done a few films – Chicago, Cinderella Man, Hairspray and the original X-Men.

    hawk007:
    Wait, djuby, what did you do for Suicide Squad?

  27. William Peterson says:

    A lot of VERY nice entries, here…
    Entirely OT: Worf, I really don’t understand…
    {Not that I have to, or that it is incumbent upon you to help me do so, mind you….}
    You LIKE this Movie?
    You HATE Batman so much that you’d rather see him become a cross between The Punisher, and Old Man Logan?
    You HATE Superman so much that you’d rather see a Careless Mass Murderer destroy most of his own hometown, rather than just take the battle into Space?
    NEITHER of these characters is portrayed as a Hero, from what I can tell…
    And that’s not counting a Lex Luthor whose main power seems to be annoying people to death…
    {Nope, I haven’t seen it, and I’m not going to…
    Given that DC has already announced ‘Rebirth’, it’s clear that they’ve FINALLY figured out that the current ‘continuity spasm’ isn’t really sitting well with anyone, though I doubt that they’re actually going to fix it so that it becomes what it always should have been…}
    {Rant over…} 😉

    I had Jack Kirby’s designs in the back of my mind, somewhere, while working on this, though except for the helmet I don’t for a moment think that it looks like any of his amazing work!

    This is Mechanica. She’s retrofitted her cyborg armor, torso and arms, to a military grade walker. These “agile legs” can move more nimbly over irregular terrain than her standard cyborg ones.

  30. melmo44 says:

    Armor this week? Now we’re talking my language. So here we have my character Evera, fully suited in a combination of plate and mail over leather. The armor bears the scores and scratches of use, for she is no knight in shining armor, but one who’s steel has been tested many times. With her respect for Greek culture and admiration of its warriors, her lord and lover gave her the scarlet cloak and the crested helm upon her ascent to command, that she may pay homage to her heroes. Though even these bears the marks of use, including a chunk sliced from the very front of the crest during a fight.
    Tl;dr- I went practical, well-used combat armor.
