META: What the heck am I doing?

I just wanted to give a quick update as to what all is going on here at HeroMachine World Headquarters in the greater metropolitan Bayfield, Colorado area.

First, I am still finishing up details of updating all the old HeroMachine mini-Editions to the new UGO.com page dimensions and layout. Hopefully they'll all function in a more similar fashion after this and be easier to work with.

Second, I'm working full tilt on the HeroMachine Mech Edition for the paying client, which you've seen a bit of art for in the Pilots preview.

Third, Friend of HeroMachine Mark is working on Rifles. So don't think all progress on HM3 has stopped just because I am working on a mini-Edition -- it hasn't. He's doing a great job on them, I've seen the first 40 or so items and they are his usual outstanding effort. I think you'll all be pleased when they're ready. We've got plenty of material for those so no need to post requests or links.

Just for funsies, here's another Pilot I did the other day.

  1. Me, Myself & I says:

I think his coat is great.

  2. Jake says:

Good to hear we’re getting rifles out of the way. More mech stuff will be good too.

  3. NEON_N64 says:

    That pilot looks badass !

So… there will be over 40 items in the rifles category, nice 🙂

  4. Gene says:

Quick question Jeff; will we be getting parts of rifles too? AS you’ve done with Blades and pistols?

  5. Jeff Hebert says:

Yes, he’s breaking rifle parts out. It’s a bit different in terms of organization than the pistols and blades, but just as (if not more so) effective and flexible. The idea is that you have, for example, a basic AK-47, then all the extras to kit one out for the various sub-flavors.

  6. Solander says:

Jeff, will rifles only have assault rifles, sniper rifles and such, or will it also include other types of two-handed firearms and weapons such as flamethrowes, large machine guns etc… ?

  7. Jeff Hebert says:

That’s up to Mark, Solander. Personally I’d not include other two-handed weapons like flamethrowers in this set, preferring they go eventually into something like “Big Weapons” or somesuch, but he might want to include them here instead.

  8. Darth_Neko says:

Will we get any classic western rifles, like the famed Winchester Repeater or a musketoon?

  9. Jigglypuff says:

so You got a bit of my vision of a 10-year-older version of the bottom-right guy in the pilot SOD right? I really wanted him to have a cigar and a pistol, so the flair of a guy who has gone through hell and back would hit hard!

  10. Tim says:

Here I was making a request list for rifles, oh well. I trust Mark will bless us with many great rifles.

*crosses fingers for M16A4 Assault Rifle and Barrett M107 Sniper*

Bayfield? Near Durango? Man, that’s a black hole as far as comics and gaming shops go…when I was at Fort Lewis College, lo these many years ago, the last one closed. Might still be a small one in Farmington, New Mexico, I dunno. Pretty country, though!

  12. Jeff Hebert says:

Wow, small world X-stacy! Yes, that’s exactly where we are. I think you’re right, the closest one is in Farmington. I am probably going to have to take Ian’s suggestion and start getting them through the mail instead.

And it sure is pretty up here, you are right.

  13. Mark says:

Thank for the support and encouragement gang. To answer a few direct questions…

@Solander – Looks like Jeff has spoken.

@Darth_Neko – Winchester, DONE! in multiple configurations. Musketoon, on the drawing board.

@Tim – M16A4, DONE! Well, sorta. There is a base M16 that’s done and plans for the parts you need to to trick it out as the A4 variety. Barrett M107, I’ll add to the list, but for sniper rifles I already have a Remington 700 and a Dragunov. If I can fit in the Barrett, I’ll try.

  14. Bael says:

Bayfield? Do you have city water, or a well? If it’s a well, ask your neighbors if you’ve got natural gas in your water. Some people there can literally light their tap water on fire. And there is a Waldenbooks in Durango for a basic comics fix.

  15. Jeff Hebert says:

Luckily our well is good, the guy who used to own the land we’re renting from sued the company that had the pad near here (it was leaking methane into the ground water) about ten years ago and got it shut down. Everything water-wise here is good now, and when they built this house they put in a special foundation screen that would keep methane out regardless.

  16. Bael says:

Good deal. A lot of people got a really nasty surprise when they started up the coal bed methane production. I wasn’t sure if our real estate laws would make a realtor tell you about that one.
