Dare I ask what was the context? Are they both mathematicians? Are they discussing some particular solution to a pertinent problem? or is he just THAT much of a douche?
Seriously, they’re walking down the street and he’s trying to make her memorize a secret Navy formula. And yes, that makes just as much sense as you would think as they stroll down a PUBLIC street.
In the next panel he berates her for not paying attention and memorizing it.
To make things worse, this guy she’s engaged to is actually The Human Bomb, who suffers from the unusual condition of exploding anything that touches his bare hand. You can imagine the awkward mess that’s going to cause on the wedding night.
Just the hands, and maybe even just the RIGHT hand. It’s one of those classic “This makes no sense” Golden Age origins, he was caught in some kind of explosion which, instead of killing him, made his skin impervious to explosions (?!) and gave him the ability to explode anything he touches. So his costume is this big white bomb suit with mittens, and to do stuff he whips off one glove and touches things.
Later he builds a wrist-mounted nitroglycerin dispenser that drops the liquid into his hand, where he charges it with explosive power before flinging it at whoever he wants to blow up, giving him a ranged power.
You’re right, it doesn’t make sense at all. Nitroglycerin doesn’t exactly need help exploding when jostled. In fact, its as likely to blow up in his hands. Admitedly not really an issue for him but it kind of limits the range a bit.
Of course now that I say that, it may be that it was yet another secret formula of some sort and not nitro … I have to go back and look it up. He’s in “Police Comics”, I should have it somewhere around here on the ol’ hard drive.
I know, me too. But sadly, I have gone through every Bulletman issue I can find.

It’s the “Douche” one 🙂

Is that just the hands or any exposed skin? If so, this guy could have started a worse trend than “sex with your socks on”…
Sex with your socks on your hands?

I miss Bulletman. 🙁
