META: Show me the money

If it turned out that I had a (very!) modest amount of money available via the nice folks at UGO to award as prizes for the weekly contests, would you be interested in that? And if so, what sorts of things would you like as prizes? Just some possibilities off the top of my head would be things like a $10 certificate to iTunes, or a discount on merchandise from Amazon.com, a signed copy of a comic book by the author and or artist, that kind of thing.

I'd love to hear your input on that -- are monetary prizes a good thing, would they make you more excited about the contests, if so what would you want, etc. etc.

Thanks!

  1. My favorite prize is the old prize of a illustration of my choice.

  2. Hook up with a site that puts pictures on t-shirts, mugs, etc, and offer up the winner a t-shirt, mug, etc 🙂

How cool would it be to have a Burler T-shirt?

Heck, maybe you could find one that has a partnership program that kicks back to you in the form of credit you could use for more prizes 🙂

If that’s not feasible, I’d say Amazon.

Hopefully this is in addition to Portrait/getting to choose something to add to HM3 🙂

  3. An iTunes card would ne nice. 🙂

Yeah, I agree with Danny. While the idea of cash, or monetary prizes is certainly a nice one, I like the relatively small-time, laid-back sentiment of a custom illustration. It means a lot more for us, and costs a lot less for you and UGO.

  5. What The Doomed Pixel said.

  6. I’d like the custom illustrations too guys but you gotta remember it piles more work on poor Jeff.

  7. I would have to place my Opinion squarely in the camp of the custom illustration also!!!!

  8. Excellent choices, gentlemen. More cash for the Jeffster means more fun for Jeff and John at Dragon*Con this year! Booyah!

  9. not that I wish to pile work upon Jeff…but I have to side with the custom illustration/custom item people.

  10. Hammerknight

A trap to Dragon Con with Jeff would be a fun prize. Lol
Items for HM3 are the best prizes to me.

  11. Free game at GameStop!! Red Lobster free Ultimate Feast!!

  12. I really like the idea of the custom illustrations, honestly the idea of getting to have input into hero machine 3, a thing I assume at least hundreds if not thousands of people use, is far cooler then even 10 bucks cash. Though the idea of a comic, signed by the artist/author would be cool. Itunes is kinda.. eh. Though, trip to dragon con with you would be great too, we can carry heavy things for you!

  13. Thanks for the feedback so far guys, much appreciated. Just to clarify, I would plan on keeping the portrait/item/custom illustration prizes as well, this would be more in the nature of an additional goody.

First, I hate to put it this way, but don’t count on any Prizes from UGO until they’re in your hand!
Their track record in that regard is not so good, I’m afraid… 🙁
I kind of like Connor’s suggestions (any kind of food is difficult to argue with!)…

  15. How about free hookers and beer?

  16. Mo’ money, mo’ problems.

  17. Yeah sounds good, but would it be difficult to transfer it to pounds for when us Brits win 😉 ?

  18. I love getting the custom illustration. But if I have to choose, I think it would rock if they would make a T-shirt with one of your characters on it. How cool would that be?

  19. If forced to choose, I, as much as I would love a signed copy of a comic book (except from Liefeld), because of my personal geographic situation (outside the US), would choose something along the lines of an Amazon discount.

  20. dementedtheclown

Comicbook give away would be cool

  21. illustration

  22. Small amounts of money would be pretty nice to be honest but i just to this for fun, bragging rights, and to test myself so i don’t care about the money. Whatever you guys decide to do is fine with me, as long as you keep doing what you guys to here on heromachine 😀

  23. Me Myself & I

The illustrations are more meaningful to me.

  24. I like the illustration as a prize. I agree that it means more work for our host, but it’s a special honor.
