HM3: Aura input needed

I am finally going to work on the "Backplane-Aura" set of items for HeroMachine 3. I know some great ideas were suggested before, which I am going to try to incorporate, but by all means feel free to chime in here as well with anything you think I might miss, or that you want to make sure gets a hearing.

  5. Small positional effects(similar to the leaves in the floors tab)
    People shaped outlines
    mist or tear effects which can be used with patterns
    Monster shaped outlines(think Naruto)

  6. Water bubbles for that underwater look. I streak like design that makes them look like they are a speedster.(Like Flash)An explosion. A worm hole so they look like they have just traveled through it. A transport beam. I’m going with the idea that you can place a colored version behind the character and then place a transparent one in front of the character to make it look like they are within the effect. I think flames would also be nice, if you make two or three of them just a little different from one and other, that way you can put them together to make larger effects. Because I think the Aruas could make wonderful special effects to be used in many ways.

  7. My aura is currently in Scorpio rising with a Gemini moon. I am feeling a oneness with the Universe which prevents me from making any kind of useful comment.

    Although some of these could be considered Background elements, most could be applied to the Aura section. It might be a good idea to have different aura formats: Ones that take the shapes of clouds or pillars or defined shapes that can be place behind or over the character regardless of their position, such as a mist cloud or wind funnel. And ones that are specific to the male and female body parts and different poses, like arms sheathed in flame or radioactive legs. Whatever you do, here are some of my individual ideas.

    Flames/fire – both the human-shaped fire behind the character and the smaller rows of flames over the body.

    Insects – as in a swarm; flies, wasps, lightning bugs

    A human-shaped “blob”

    Crackling energy auras – lightning and the like.

    Swirling music notes

    Weather effects – wind, snow, rain, hail, earthquake, etc.

    Fireworks or sparkling light motes (like Jubilee)

    Various shadow shapes – male, female, monstrous, shapeless blob, etc.

    Arcane runes

    Nanobots

    Underwater effects – bubbles, curling seaweed, swirling schools of fish

    That’s all I’ve got so far – I’ll post again if I get anything else.

  9. I know this a bad time to ask, but how about a jester’s hat, or I can wait untill you ask ideas for headgear again.

  10. Finally, auras! It took me forever to resize, layer, and reposition the 20 or so item right fireballs to make the fire aura for Krypto Knight in the newest contest. I can’t wait!

  11. Small random objects that have a glow effect around them to be used for Telekenetic and Master of Magnetics type characters. Same thing with a bone of randomsized stones ( for the hero/villian with the ability to control earth )

    Snow flakes mixed with vapor to give an ice cold air effect.

  18. -Spectral smoke with a flame-like shape coming off and upwards from the character.

    -an electric sparking aura that resembles something like in DBZ, when Goku would go super sayen.

    a liquid-like aura that is dripping off the character downwards, like the character is soaking wet from coming out of water, or a chamber of goo.

    -a skin-tight short-glowing aura, a’ la Green Lantern- Hal Jordan style!

  19. @RitoruBushi:I doubt we will be seeing any kind of skin tight / body molded auras, but if we do that they will likely ONLY be for the default posses as I do not think Jeff wants to draw an Aura effect for each and every of the custom body parts.

  21. As many people have suggested, I’d like to throw my two cents for the super saiyan aura like the pics in Demented’s post.

  22. a basic body outline that has a center colour and a inside the line colour to use to make the shrinking/growing effect i.e. the Atom changing size

  23. I would greatly like to see something of the following auras:
    -Falling/floating feathers
    -Snow, rain, hail, and the like
    -A type of “heavy” horizontal fog (maybe ground level to approximately the upper thigh or waist of a standard positioned character) that could be repositioned and made transparent as Hammerknight described above.
    -Raining coins/bills for the “pimped out” characters
    -A deep overhanging shadow that fades down and disappears at half-screen that maybe spans the entire upper half of the creation zone as a default? Could be repositioned and scaled to hang behind a characters head/body as well.
    Just some ideas.

  24. Smoke, like the character has magically appeared out of no where with a cloud of smoke announcing their arrival then they step out of the smoke. Or maybe like a soldier or warrior (or firefighter) having just run through a fire and got a little singed so their smoking.

  27. There has been a lot of suggestions of smoke and cloud type effects. I think it would be great if there is a variety of cloud auras that way we can customize the sky better too. As for the auras, I think everyone has basically covered everything that I would use.

    What’s on the agenda after auras? I really liked one of Hammerknight’s ideas of getting the dwarf sized body parts and the monster legs.

  28. Jake: there won’t be dwarf-sized body parts. In HM3 the idea is that you scale the body bits and clothing to go on them to the size you want. By launch, I’ll have a little interface that comes up when you first start that asks what general sort of body you want, and will (in theory) pre-scale, move, and rotate everything where you need it. But for now and til then, it’s manual.
