Herr D
Among standard rpgs, my favorite played was a gnome fighter/mage. He worked in a circus doing a magic act (only the REAL stuff here!) and ‘making’ the other performers safe. He didn’t cross-class until his first ‘adventure.’
Of custom character creation, I keep coming back to a variation on a theme: a chaotic neutral human fighter with a chaotic neutral IQ ‘enchanted’ (player mystery) to hyperdexterity. Either arm or his right leg can outfight two average opponents while he covers his face and trembles in fear, clearly not wanting to be involved. Quite an image, huh? It’s not blindfighting six opponents if you’re not paying attention and not controlling it anyway.
