I used GIMP 2. First I saved all my characters as transparent PNGs via Heromachine Options. Then I opened them in GIMP and in case I had masked anything to a white background or insignia, used the rubber to get rid of that. then I adjusted the size of the image and added it as a new level to my group shot.
