License Agreement and Installation Instructions

HeroMachine End User License Agreement

The purpose of the HeroMachine software is to help you bring your own characters to life. Any use of this software which is inconsistent with that purpose is unlawful and may expose you, the end user, to liability and/or prosecution. Such unlawful activity includes, but is not limited to, attempting to recreate an existing copyrighted character; using a copyrighted name or description to make it appear as if your creation is based on a copyrighted character; choosing colors and combinations of items to make it appear as if your character is the same as a copyrighted character.

Use of the HeroMachine software to create images of previously copyrighted images whose rights are not held by the user will result in immediate termination of the HeroMachine User License. And lots of bad karma.

Copyrighted images and characters which might be infringed upon include those published in comic books, on novel covers, in magazines, on web sites, in role playing game supplements, etc., regardless of the size of the original publisher or how widely the original material was distributed.

In other words -- BE UNIQUE! Stealing someone else's character concept is wrong, illegal, and weak. Don't do it. That's not what the program is built for, so don't try to warp it into something it's not.

The individual images used in the HeroMachine, and any composite assemblage using those specific images, are copyrighted by UGO, Inc. The image you create with the HeroMachine is also copyrighted by UGO, Inc., though permission is automatically granted to use said image without compensation on any non-commercial site. UGO, Inc. does NOT claim copyright on your character CONCEPT.

In other words, your character is YOURS, but the images (in any order and combination) within the HeroMachine application are OURS.

Installation Instructions for Windows PC's

  1. Click the link below to start the download of hmach25.exe.
  2. Your browser will ask where you would like to put the file you're downloading; pick any folder you like, but remember what you pick.
  3. Once the download is complete, go to the folder you chose and double-click hmach20.exe -- you will get a dialog box asking where you would like to put the extracted files. Choose any folder you like, though generally c:heromachine is a good choice.
  4. Once the extraction is complete, go to the folder you chose and double-click heromachine.html to load the program into your browser. That's it!
  5. NOTE: If the program won't completely load, you probably need to update your version of the Flash Player from http://www.macromedia.com. It's a free download.

Installation Instructions for Macintosh Users

  1. Click the link below to start the download of hmach25.exe. Even though this file has a .exe extension, it's just a self-extracting ZIP file, it will work on a Mac.
  2. Your browser will ask where you would like to put the file you're downloading; pick any folder you like, but remember what you pick.
  3. Once the download is complete, go to the folder you chose and double-click hmach20.exe. If the file is not recognized, drag and drop it onto StuffIt Expander. If StuffIt fails to open the archive, try renaming the file from hmach20.exe to hmach20.zip. If that fails as well, you need the latest version of StuffIt (http://www.stuffit.com/mac/index.html).
  4. You will be asked where to extract the files to -- pick any folder you like, but remember what you pick.
  5. Once the expansion is complete, go to the folder you chose and double-click heromachine.html. It is the file with an icon like your browser.
