Lego Takes On Minecraft With Video Game Lego takes on Minecraft with video game 2 June 2015 Danish toy company Lego has launched a rival to popular video game Minecraft. Lego Worlds is available now, at PS11.99, via the Steam gaming platform. Its final release is expected in 2016, with classic and modern playsets along with popular mini-figures. In response to player feedback, new features will be added. Lego already sells Minecraft sets so that gamers can build their virtual creations. Lego Worlds will allow fans to reverse the process. Tom Stone, TT Games' managing Director, said that Lego Worlds will "represent the physical, Lego brick-building joy that consumers have loved for decades, on a modern platform that delivers an entirely different type of experience with the beloved LEGO bricks." He said, "From the brick-by–brick editor, to discovering an extensive range of items characters and creatures to populate you worlds - there are endless creative possibilities." minecraft Favorite toy Daniel Goldberg has written a book about Minecraft's growth. He said he was "surprised that it has taken so long". "Minecraft is exactly what Lego should have done 10 years ago," he said. "I'm certain it will be a huge success for them." Markus Persson (the Swedish video games developer who created Minecraft) has never hidden his enthusiasm for Lego. The admiration seems to be mutual. David Gram, Lego Marketing Director, said last year that Minecraft was digital Lego. We only wish we had invented it." Mr Goldberg believes Mr Persson (known as Notch) will be "flattered" after the game. He said that Lego was his favorite toy as a child, and was the main inspiration for Minecraft. It was nice to see the things come full circle." "I don’t think there will be animosity. Games developers in general tend to be flattered when someone copies an existing game." Lego is marketed at children but also for a hardcore of adult enthusiasts. Microsoft bought Minecraft last year. It has been a hit with both children and adults. "The audience for Minecraft, has proved itself to be quite big, so I'm sure there will be room for both games," said Mr Goldberg.
