It's available for Windows, macOS, Linux. Minecraft for Windows is only compatible with Windows 10/11. Minecraft Dungeons is only compatible with Windows 7+. You can log in with a different Microsoft account by clicking the link. If a user attempts log in with a Mojang Studios legacy Minecraft account, they'll be directed to migrate into a Microsoft account. On the left side you will see a "News" tab and a tab for each of the Minecraft Launcher games. The Minecraft Launcher's top left corner contains the user’s Xbox gamertag (which may differ from their Minecraft Java Edition username)[2]. Clicking on this link will take you to the Help page, where you can log in or log off of your active account. The main "Play” section allows users to download and launch Minecraft: Java Edition. It also has an installation selection (which sorts installations by most recently played), the Java Edition username on right, and the most recent news from minecraft.net below. - One can launch multiple instances of the game by pressing the "Play" button whilst the game is running. The game can be launched offline if the device doesn't have an internet connection. This is only possible if the game was downloaded initially. If the user isn’t logged in to an account that purchased the game, the “Play” button will appear as a “Play demo” button. This downloads and launches a demo version of the game. You can also view the patch notes, including snapshots, in the "Patch Notes" section. Installations[] Create a brand new installation. You can create and edit custom installations in the "Installations” section. There are buttons to sort and search installations, as well as checkboxes to enable installations with "Releases", "Snapshot", and "Modded" versions of the game. Installations are stored in launcher_profiles.json (or launcher_profiles_microsoft_store.json when using the new Minecraft Launcher for Windows) in the game's directory (.minecraft). There are two default installations: one for the "Latest release" (if enabled), and one for the "Latest snapshot". Both of these cannot be modified. A new installation can be created by clicking the "New installation" button and an existing installation can be edited by clicking on it. There is a "Play" button that launches the selected installation and a folder icon that takes to the installation's game directory. The ellipses buttons allows you to edit, duplicate or delete an installed. You can modify the following options on the create/edit installation page: - Icon. You can choose from the default icons or add your own. Custom icons must be a .png and 128x128 pixels in size. - Name, by default called "". - Version, which includes access to older releases and snapshots (if enabled). - Game directory. This is the location where game files are saved. The location can be typed in or selected using the "Browse" button. - Resolution. This changes the game's window size. It can be accessed by selecting from a list of resolutions or typing in a custom one. Java executable by default uses the bundled Java runtime. - JVM arguments like heap size. It was possible to manually set a log configuration in the past (see Debugging on Wiki.vg for more information), but this does not seem to be possible anymore. [3] A specific game version's jar can also downloaded by selecting it from the list, and clicking the "Server” button next to it. Backward compatibility[] Selecting older versions in the create new installation screen. The Minecraft Launcher has the ability to play most older releases of the game (and older snapshots, if enabled) by default, but also some older versions prior to Release 1.0. In order to see these versions in the installations section, the player must enable "Show historical versions of Java Edition" in the Minecraft Launcher settings tab. These versions are unsupported and may have bugs or other issues that are not found in the latest versions. To avoid save corruption or other problems, it is recommended to run older versions in a separate directory. [4] Once historical versions are enabled, the following can be accessed: - Most beta versions. - Most alpha versions. - One infdev version. - Four classic versions. - Five pre-classic models. [5] These older versions can have issues, including: - Some sounds can be wrong. Doors, bows, and explosives all use sounds from RC1, even versions before it. Sounds do not work in Alpha 1.1.2_01 versions. Versions prior to Alpha 1.1.2_01 have missing skins. These are due to an earlier version that used a different Skin Server, which has since been discontinued. Capes may still work, however. [needs to be tested] - The Minecraft Launcher doesn't correctly set the player’s name in Alpha 1.0.15 and Alpha 1.2.0 to Alpha 2.2.6. This means that everyone uses default names: "Player" followed with a random 3-digit number. This makes multiplayer difficult to play, as a player's location and inventory is reset every time they relaunch their client. - Alpha 1.2.5 and Alpha 1.2.6 are specifically designed to have players named "Player524". Multiplayer is impossible in these versions, as you can't join the same server and play with other players with the exact same name. Online mode does not work in versions prior Beta 1.8, as a side effect to the above and because of the shutdown of old authentication server, Skins[] The skins section In the "Skins" section, the user can view and change their in-game skin. The default skin is either Steve, or Alex. You can apply skin to the skin library by clicking "Use". The ellipsis button allows you to edit, duplicate or delete the skin. The default skins for Steve and Alex are stored in the library. They can be duplicated, applied, or removed. You can visit this section and not purchase the game. Minecraft for Windows[] The main "Play” section allows users to download (if necessary) and launch Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock Edition). It also includes the user’s Xbox Gamertag and the latest news from minecraft.net below. - If the device does not have an internet connection, the game can still be played offline, but only if it has been downloaded. Unsupported devices are notified with a link to a website for those devices. - If the user hasn't registered for an account to purchase the game, the "Play” button will appear as a "Play demo” button. This button links the user to the Microsoft Store to download and launch a demo version of the game. There are sections for FAQs and Minecraft for Windows (Bedrock Edition) and Installation. You can also repair or uninstall the game from the "Installation" section. The patch notes section contains information about the latest patches. Minecraft Dungeons[] There are 5 tabs on the Minecraft Dungeons page: Play, DLC, FAQ, Installation, and Patch notes. Only Play, DLC, FAQ, Installation, and Patch notes will be shown on unsupported platforms. Play[] The default view of Minecraft Dungeons in the Minecraft Launcher. The main "Play” section lets the user download (if required) and launch Minecraft Dungeons using the "Play” button. Below are images from Minecraft Dungeons and a list with the latest news articles from mincraft.net. This section also includes a notice that the game is available separately from the Microsoft Store. If the player is not playing on the supported platform, a small message on the bottom is shown that displays: Where is the play button?! Minecraft Dungeons are not available on this platform. DLC[] The DLC tab on the Minecraft Dungeons page in the Minecraft Launcher. The search bar has a filter option that allows you to narrow down the results for searching DLCs. The bundle or/and the DLCs can be shown by checking the box. Each DLC is displayed in a card-like layout with the DLC info on one side and the cover image to the right. A slideshow is also included at the bottom of each card. FAQ[] The FAQ tab in Minecraft Dungeons on the Minecraft Minecraft Launcher. The FAQ section can be accessed by pressing the FAQ tab. The FAQ section contains troubleshooting information and a link for the Minecraft Dungeons FAQ. Installation[] Visiting this section without the game purchased displays a button that redirects to the Minecraft Dungeons buy page. If you have purchased the game, it has an uninstall and repair buttons. Patch Notes[] This section includes cards of the patch note cards. Each card has an illustration on the top, and text below that identifies the patch notes. This displays the patch notes when clicked. Uninstalling the Minecraft Unified Launcher [] Source: "Uninstalling The Old Minecraft Unified Launcher” - Minecraft Help Center This applies only to players using Windows 10 or newer. Older versions of Windows are not able to use the new Minecraft Launcher for Windows. To remove any confusion between the launchers, you can install the new launcher and uninstall the old one. For clarity, the new launcher is referred to as the "Minecraft Launcher for Windows" and the old launcher as the "Minecraft Unified Launcher". How to remove the Minecraft Unified Launcher. 1. Click the start menu in Windows (windows icon in the bottom left). 2. Click the top entry and type "Add or Remove Programs" 3. Search for "Minecraft Launcher". The launcher to uninstall displays Mojang underneath the title "Minecraft Launcher". 4. Click the three dots shown to the left of the "Minecraft Launcher" title and select "Uninstall". Only one launcher should be installed. Run the Minecraft Launcher for Windows to ensure it still works; if it doesn't, reinstall using the Microsoft Store. Launcher or game mods may need to be migrated or re-installed to the new Minecraft Launcher for Windows installation location before uninstalling the old launcher.
