Mojang Acquires Minecraft Mod Makers and will make Mods Official The four main developers behind Bukkit the most popular set of non-official modifications for Minecraft servers are being hired by Mojang, makers of the highly popular block-world simulator. Mojang has announced that Nathan Adams, Nathan Gilbert, Erik Broes and Warren Loo will join the company to improve Bukkit, making it more compatible and enable support for other server mods. Loo writes in official forms that the Bukkit team will basically rebuild the game's API. This will allow unofficial developers to use the game's mechanics more easily and seamlessly. Mojang points out that there are a handful of teams that have created popular mods for the game including Spout and Forge, but Bukkit is the only one. Bukkit team was chosen because they've developed specifically for Minecraft servers. The goal is to get Bukkit working on "more than just modding." The gentlemen are clearly eager to join the Mojang guys. Prestalive.com This happens when a company that has a game you play for free decides to start paying you in real money.
