Minecraft To Support UN Regeneration Projects Minecraft to aid UN regeneration projects Minecraft is used to model 300 places around the world so that people can decide how they will alter their lives. Block by Block is a collaboration between Minecraft-maker Mojang, UN Habitat and the Block by Block program. Minecraft will allow users to create virtual tours of urban locations. They will also be able to change the model and help determine how the regeneration money can be spent. One of the first areas that was modelled in Minecraft as part of a pilot program for Block by Block is the Undugu playground - part of the Kibera slum region on the outskirts of Nairobi. "We'll put it into the game so that players can stroll around and feel as if it's as real as it gets," Lydia Winters, Mojang's community liaison manager Mojang told the BBC. Undugu was recreated on computer by Minecraft modeling company Fyre UK. The UN plans to restore the playground is in the near future available to people who live nearby. Virtual visits Minecraft is set in a universe made of cubes, each one of which is made of a different virtual material such as stone, dirt iron ore, diamond and many more. Playing the game involves stacking the cubes to build structures or breaking them down into their raw materials to make artefacts and objects. The ease at that the real world can be modelled in Minecraft led UN Habitat to approach Mojang to help it with its plans for urban regeneration, said Ms Winters. UN Habitat will remodel 300 areas in Minecraft by the end of 2016. This will allow the residents of the areas to participate in the process of transformation. "It's bringing decision makers together with young people to take a decision on this common ground for public spaces around the world," said Ms Winters.
