Character Design Contest ♯90- Insect Themed Characters

This weeks challenge does exactly what it says on the tin. You have to create an insect themed superhero or super villain. So we’re talking insect inspired powers and costumes. I’m sure you don’t need me to give any examples. I know at least one person is going to be very happy with this weeks challenge.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). The winner gets to claim a custom made item from dblade to be put into heromachine, so long as the item conforms to his prize rules, which you can find here: http://www.heromachine.com/forum/the-heromachine-art-gallery/dblades-whiz-bang-item-dispenser/. Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

Character Design Contest ♯89- Everyday Superheroes

Ok, before we get into this weeks contest, I feel I have an apology to make. Last week I neglected to post the contest and, if I’m honest, I have no good explanation why. I just forgot. I have a feeling I was doing something at the time, my entire family was home so it would be a fair assumption, but I can’t for the life of me remember what it was. So, I apologise for missing the contest. I’ll try to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

So, with that out of the way, let’s get on to business. What I want you guys to do, it create a superhero or villain in everyday clothes, like Heroes or Marvels The Runaways. Powers must be shown, but what those powers are does not matter. All characters must be able to fit in to normal society, so no monstrous mutations or green skinned aliens (unless you can show them blending in to human form in some manner), your characters must be indistinguishable from any other person you’d see walking down the street in your local town (minus the super-powers obviously).

Character Design Contest ♯88- Sports TGT

Ok guys, for this weeks contest, I want you to create something sporty for me. You can do any sport you want, Baseball, Golf, Football/ Soccer, Track Sprinting, I’m not all that fussy. But, you don’t have to make it just normal. Consider this a two great tastes contest if you will. I want to see Superhero Sportsmen, Sci-Fi sportsmen, hell even a vampire with a baseball bat if you want. Hopefully, this will get your creative juices flowing.

Character Design Contest ♯87- Time Travel

So, this’ll be a fun one. I want you guys to create a time travelling character for me this week, in honour of the return of Doctor Who this coming Saturday. It doesn’t matter how they travel through time (provided obviously that it isn’t by TARDIS, because that’s copyrighted) or, if you feel so inclined as to put them in a scene, where they end up, I just want to see some cool time travellers.

Character Design Contest ♯86- Western Zodiac

Now, back when Jeff ran the CDCs, he did a series of challenges based around the western zodiac. I seem to recall them being quite popular, so lets have another go at them shall we, because I’m sure y’all have improved on heromachine since then. The idea is simple, create a character or a representation of any of the 12 signs of the zodiac (Aries, Taurus, Gemini, Cancer, Leo, Virgo, Libra, Scorpio, Sagittarius, Capricorn, Aquarius, Pisces).

This week, obviously due to the fixed number of zodiac signs, there is a limit of 12 entries (that’s one entry per sign per person) and, as usual, the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time).

Character Design Contest ♯85- National Heroes

Ok guys, for this weeks contest I want you to create a nation themed hero in the vein of Captain America and such. You can choose any nation you please, but I would ask that you refrain from doing America if you can, that one has been done to death don’t you think.

Character Design Contest ♯84- Hair Raising

So, now that we’ve got the easy stuff out the way, lets move on to something a bit more challenging shall we. This week I want you guys to create the best hairstyles you can using heromachine. We’ve done poses, costumes and faces, so we might as well do hair. One stipulation I have for this weeks challenge is that your entries must be headshots. I don’t mind if you do faces and such for your entries, but I will be judging purely on the hair.

Character Design Contest ♯83- Modern Age

Ok guys, we’re going to skip over the Bronze Age this week and go straight into the Modern Age of comics. This means you’ve got a bit more leeway on your character design, as this period covers the 80’s, 90’s and the 21st century, so hopefully you’ll find something inspiring amongst those three.

Character Design Contest ♯82- Silver Age

So, as we did that Golden Age last week, this week we’ll do the Silver Age. So design wise think of characters introduced between 1956 and 1970. If you really want to make things interesting you can redesign/ relaunch one of the characters you entered in last weeks contest (if you entered) like DC and Marvel did during this period. However this isn’t a requirement.

No prizes for guessing what next weeks contest is going to be.

Character Design Contest ♯81- Operation: Golden Age

Ok guys, this weeks contest is going to be really simple. I want you to create a character in the style of the Golden Age of comics. If you don’t know what the Golden Age of comics is, it’s the period between 1935 and 1955, which was the birth of the superhero genre of comics. So think characters like the original incarnations of The Flash and Green Lantern.
