CDC #436 – Monsters Updated!

With Halloween right around the corner it is time for Machiners to bring the spooky!

Your challenge this week is take one of the classic horror movie characters pictured above and update them for 2019. Maybe Dracula is a goth kid or  Frankenstein’s monster is government subsidized weaponized creature. Just be creative and have fun.

The winner this week will receive my version of their design rendered in glorious HM3.

Please follow the instructions below regarding the naming of entries.

Enter as often as you like!

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. Please keep all submissions PG13: full or partial nudity is prohibited. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that have been created solely using Hero Machine, and that you know for certain have never been entered in a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShack, Deviant Art or whatever);Do not use Photobucket.

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close at 9am Eastern on Sunday, November 3rd.

If we make a vampire, do they have to be male? Can they be female?

    Sure!

  3. G. W. says:

Does this have to be based on the Universal Monsters versions of the characters or could we use, for example, the book version of Frankenstein’s monster?

Since I am more familiar with the movie versions than the literary ones I would suggest sticking to the movies as your jumping off point.

The dark web sells some terrible, terrible stuff. I expect this will be the first in a long line of one-star reviews. The website is offering a 25% discount on all orders placed on November 4-5 if Palazzo wins CDC 436, but I doubt that will help with their business.

The reviewer’s name is an Easter egg for the original film.

  6. Palazzo says:

Just in case the review is difficult to read, it says:
The website did not say “Some assembly required”. Also, one arm is clearly male and one leg appears to be from a goat. Would not buy again.

In the town of Snowhill Minnesota there lies a special boarding school for students with strange problems. These problems border on the weird and supernatural of the Freshmen class of 103 is Tut. The teenage pharaoh of Egypt thousands of years ago he never really received a proper education. His mummy was accidentally awoken and now he walks the halls of Snowhill’s School for the Strange as the Freshmen class President.

The students have never thought a real phantom would show up in their fall production. Nor did they think the “phantom” was their old theater director.
I apologize for his looks, as I was inspired by the Broadway musical/2004 Warner Bros. film (which my aunts were raving about back in the day). However, as I am aware of the 1925 Universal Studios film, I did not forget to add an “Easter egg” Lon Chaney (spelled it wrong). Shown is both head-shot and full.

Another entry. Sometime in the future, an outcast technology specialist from Galactic Sector [Classified] had unauthorized access to the federation’s cremation chambers and extracted bodies of fallen marines and operatives.

Vladimir Drake was mysteriously found in the woods of Transylvania by the U.S. Government as a child. Only one problem: He was already long since dead. Currently, the young vampire lives in Stokersville Maryland, where he attends Browning High School, living alone in an abandoned house with his pet bat Bram, overseen by his government connection, Agent Abraham Van Helsing of the Department of Supernatural Affairs, subsiding off of blood regularly supplied to him by the DSA. Stokersville is one of a few towns across the nation which serves as a front for the DSA, and everyone who lives in these towns lives a normal enough life, but is sworn to secrecy about the supernatural beings who lives there

When Victor Frankenstein set out to create his own life, he was faced with many difficulties. His first three attempts at creating a living being failed. The first one did not live, the second one lived for only a few minutes, and the third one gave such a violent reaction to the electricity needed to birth him that Victor’s assistant Igor was killed in the process. With his dying breath, Igor asked Victor to use any parts of his body that were needed to complete the experiment. With a heavy heart, Victor obliged, using Igor’s heart and left leg. Months later, Adam was competed, and was being given a new arm by Dr. Frankenstein after his old one became damaged. Once the surgery was complete, Adam grabbed a square knife and murdered the doctor, whose only defense of a carving knife proved useless. Adam then took the doctor’s apron and replaced Victor’s name with his own, baptizing himself as his own person, rather than a monster. He now kills whoever he wants, and steals their parts. But he isn’t using their parts for himself, so what is he doing with them?
