Last year at this time I gave you a list of Anime that I like to watch during the Halloween Season. This year I am going to give a similar list, a list of 8 anime series I want to watch this week leading up to the 31st.
So lets get started, Here is my list in no particular order that I wish to watch. Also I hope you will share with me and the rest of the community a similar list of your Halloween Anime!
Hellsing, a secret organization of the British government, have long been battling supernatural threats to keep the people safe from creatures of the night. The current leader, Integra Wingates Hellsing controls her own personal army to eliminate the undead beings, but even her highly trained soldiers pale in comparison to her most trusted vampire exterminator, a man by the name of Alucard, who is actually a powerful vampire himself. Along with Integra's mysterious butler and Alucard's new vampire minion, Seras Victoria, The Hellsing Organization must face not only regular ghouls and vampires, but a rivaling secret organization from the Vatican, and Millennium, an enigmatic group of madmen spawned by a certain war over 50 years ago...
A bloody battle between monsters is about to begin, The dead are dancing, and all hell is singing...
Highschool Of The Dead
A mysterious, lethal disease is on the loose worldwide, resulting in a catastrophic death rate of humanity, and the increasing rise of attacks, caused by the living dead.
In Japan, several high school students and a school nurse have banded together to escape Fujimi High School shortly after it was attacked by zombies. The group now attempts to figure who or what was responsible for this plague, and in the meantime, attempt to survive the present apocalypse.
Dance In The Vampire Bund
After millennia in hiding, Mina Tepes, the Princess of the ancient covenant and ruler of all vampires, wants change. Using the vast wealth of the Tepes line, she has paid off the entire gross national debt of Japan and in so doing, gained the authority to create a "special district" off the coast of Japan that is to become the future haven to vampires the world over!
Now, on the eve of the landmark press conference announcing the existence of vampires to the world, terrorists and rival factions are plotting to assassinate Mina Tepes before she has a chance to make her world-changing announcement.
When Hiro Hiyorimi tries to save a beautiful young woman from certain death, he ends up a dead hero himself! However, since the drop-dead girl is Hime, daughter of the King of the Monsters, his "reward" is to come back as a not-quite-living soldier in her honor guard of horror! That means helping fight off the army of supernatural monstrosities Hime's siblings are unleashing against her in hopes of moving up the ladder of succession.
And if facing off with vampires and zombies isn't bad enough, how can anyone be prepared for the REALLY weird ones, like were-sharks, pandas and killer dumplings? This sure as hell isn't the afterlife Hiro was hoping for, but the really sad part is that Hime is the good girl in all of this... or at least as close to good as you can come when you're on the wrong side of the gates of hell!
In present times, Gods and Demons coexist together with Humans after the door between each of these worlds had opened. Tsuchimi Rin is a normal young high school student attending Verbena Academy, spending his days living peacefully with his childhood friend Kaede. Unexpectedly, one day the King of Gods, the King of Demons and their families move into be Rin's next door neighbors. Apparently the daughter of the Gods, Sia, and the daughter of the demons, Nerine, are both deeply in love with Rin after having met him in the past. Along with his playful friendship with upperclassmen Asa and his encounter with the silent but cute Primula, Rin has much on his hands dealing with the affections of each of these girls. Based on the eroge by Navel.
Vampire Princess Miyu
Himiko is a spiritualist who investigates the supernatural (well, duh). One day while on a case involving a girl trapped in a mysterious coma for over a year, Himiko encounters Miyu, a vampire who looks to the world like an innocent schoolgirl. Miyu hunts the Shinma, a breed of demons who have wandered into the mortal plane and who often terrorize humans (a Shinma was responsible for the girl's coma). Of course, being a vampire, Miyu also has the habit of sucking people's blood, but only (as she insists) when they request her to do so in return for eternal life.
Is Miyu friend or fiend? Himiko follows Miyu as she encounters case after case of bizarre supernatural occurences, vowing to put a halt to Miyu's preying on victims for their blood. Each time, Himiko learns a little more about Miyu's nature, until ...
Witch Hunter Robin
Witches are individuals with special powers like ESP, telekinesis, mind control, etc. (not the typical hogwart and newt potions). Robin, a 15-year-old craft user, arrives from Italy to Japan to work for an organization named STN Japan Division (STN-J) as a replacement for one of STN-J's witch hunters who was recently killed. Unlike other divisions of STN, STN-J tries to capture the witches alive in order to learn why and how they became witches in the first place.
3X3 Eyes is the story of a young man named Yakumo Fuuji, who through a strange series of events becomes the immortal slave of the last of a race of 3 Eyed immortals. The immortal absorbs his soul to save his life, making him immortal in the process. Now, he begins a journey with the female immortal in an attempt to find a way of becoming human. Of course, there are many complications along the way, not the least of which being that the immortal is a female with a split personality, one achingly cute and the other being no-nonsense destructive power, and the romances that develop between
When I saw an anime talk this week I thought to myself “ok, gonna be halloween themed, Hellsing!” and yup, first thing. I haven’t seen Hellsing yet and it’d be on my list as well, but I can’t think of any other ones that I would put on a list. Soul Eater I guess. All the other ones that spring to mind aren’t exactly in the spirit of halloween, even if the deal with death and monsters and such, just not the kind of things you can dress up as to go trick or treating.
One Piece episodes 337 through 381 are Halloween-themed. Zombies, shadow-eating giants, more zombies, ghosts and singing skeletons included. And lots of fun.
Hellsing Ultimate is better than Hellsing in my opinion. It’s story is more finished and there is so much badass. Also there are some horror anime, like Shiki (Which is OK) or Higurashi (Which I’ve heard is good). Then there are the supernatural like Soul Eater or maybe Ghost Hound. Other anime have terrifying moments like the Titan attacks in Attack on Titan or Any scene with Johan Liebert in Monster. Of these, I’d go with Hellsing Ultimate or Soul Eater, though neither are that scary, though Monster is also an all time fave.
I’d agree with Vampyrist that Hellsing Ultimate is the better story, but for what it’s worth, Hellsing has one of the best original soundtracks I’ve ever heard in my life.
Not being that big of an anime fan, I don’t really know if I’ve seen any scary stuff that hasn’t already been recommended. I suppose Now and Then, Here and There could qualify, but that’s less “creepy, jump-scary fun” and more “soulcrushingly depressing horror”.
