Character Design Contest ♯81- Operation: Golden Age

Ok guys, this weeks contest is going to be really simple. I want you to create a character in the style of the Golden Age of comics. If you don't know what the Golden Age of comics is, it's the period between 1935 and 1955, which was the birth of the superhero genre of comics. So think characters like the original incarnations of The Flash and Green Lantern.

As per usual, no limits on entries this week and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). The winner gets to claim a custom made item from dblade to be put into heromachine, so long as the item conforms to his prize rules, which you can find here: Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

This contest has really got me inspired. Unfortunately, I’m sitting on a dock with a cold refreshing beverage on vacation. Looking forward to seeing some classic character concepts come to life!
    Cheers from the lake!

  5. DaCreature says:

    How Do I post it?

  6. JR19759 says:

@DaCreature- Upload your creation to an image hosting site (such as the Forums, photo bucket or deviantart), open the image in a new tab and then post the link to that image in the reply box and post the comment.

  7. lukec12321 says:

djuby your second one is looking a LOT like Shanna he she-devil (marvel comics).

Just saying, its not very original.

  8. JR19759 says:

@lukec12321- I will be the judge of what is acceptable or not thank you. And lets be honest, all Jungle men and women are basically Tarzan with a new name and, in the case of the Jungle Women, a different gender, so it’s not a very original concept in the first place is it?

  9. Kaldath says:

    @Skybandit: Post deleted as request

  10. Worf says:

@DaCreature: Put your image in one of the hosting sites (PhotoBucket, DevianArt, etc..) then post the link to your image here.

  11. DaCreature says: Here you go his name is Seeing Eye, also thanks JR19759

  14. DaCreature says: Name is Maelstrom (Spelled right) he can control water!

  15. Herr D says:

A certain high-ranking official died because of a lack of proper air support. His dying wish was that he could prevent the same thing happening to other American soldiers. At the precise moment of his death, an eagle egg appeared in his usual seat in the chapel of the army base he was temporarily stationed. Much to the amazement of the chaplain, it hatched and grew instantly to adult size. It had a peculiar star on its chest and required no food or water. Its squawking alerted the sentries to a saboteur the very next night, saving perhaps two hundred lives. It fights the Nazis at every turn–American Eagle!

  16. KSW says:

Most of the entries I’ve Seen are mostly In tights . I have a feeling we will get Lots of Visiters to the Male/Female Spandex section. 😉

    Shooting Star

IF you want to listen to the music which I did while making all this: John Philip Sousa’s March, “The Stars and Stripes Forever”

Thomas Dare, also known as Tom or Tommy, volunteered for a Top Secret government test

Receptionist Betty Phillips & The Administrator Neil Morgan

    There he met:

Agent Jon Smythe, a somber agent who keeps to himself, who many speculate about his loyalties.

    Agent Phillipe’ Reynard
a gregarious redhead who everyone loves.

Having studied depression and energy levels of residents where they had long, dark nights and long dark winters as opposed to sunny climes Dr. Herbert Jeffries had a theory to help increase productivity for soldiers to be revitalized by sunlight to fight off depression and fatigue

Every tissue in the body has vitamin D receptors, including
the brain, heart, muscles, and immune system, which means
vitamin D is needed at every level for the body to function.

Vitamin D is also the only vitamin that is a hormone. After it is consumed in the diet or absorbed (synthesized) in the skin, vitamin D is then transported to the liver and kidneys where it is converted to its active hormone form. Vitamin D as a hormone assists with the absorption of calcium, helping
to build strong bones, teeth and muscles.

In addition to its well-known role in calcium absorption, vitamin D activates genes that regulate the immune system and release neurotransmitters (e.g., dopamine, serotonin)
that affect brain function and development. Researchers
have found vitamin D receptors on a handful of cells located
in regions in the brain-the same regions that are linked with
ultraviolet radiation found in natural sunlight.

Dr. Jeffries came up with a a cocktail of Vitimin D, Saratonin, Dopamine, Vitimin C, Vitamin E to energize soldiers on the field

Dr. Jeffries with the test serum

After a series of injections with the serum, nothing happened, one morning Thomas discovered one of the falling stars he had admired from his room had crash landed and not burned up.
Little did Thomas realize with the radioactive vitamin/hormone cocktail in his system, and absorbing the morning sun and radiation from the fallen meteor had all worked together to take effect on Thomas’ body and make him glow.

Thomas Dare had become a solar powered hero Shooting Star

    Solar powered
Needs hour of sunlight, or 4 hours of starlight to regenerate
    Rapid healing,

After the meteor exposure, he is tested, poked and prodded to see how he developed his powers.

Little did they realize Reynard was a double agent, and he had radiated the test serums hoping to kill the test subject and sabotage the tests.

Shooting Star defeated a spy ring, uncovering and defeating Phillipe Reynard

    Shooting Star battling Nazis

Shooting Star became much reported and loved

    Nazi Helmut Gunner

    The Nazi Shark

    The Nazi Bullet

    The Golden Skull

After WWII there are some other issues and villians.

    The Blood Brotherhood
composed of occultists, mystics, pirates, cutthroats, and assassins

Antoine LaBas – Leader of the Blood Brotherhood torturing Shooting Star in a darkened dungeon to discover the source of his powers.

    Mark Sparks

Mark found Shooting Star in the dudgeon and saved him

He suggested them team up together, and Mark would help him fight crime.

Shooting Star didn’t like the idea of endangering a helpless kid.

So Mark told Shooting Star something he hadn’t told anyone else.
Six months ago Mark has helping his dad Mike work on their old clunker of a car. Mark was struck by lightning in a sudden summer storm while holding the jumper cables trying to help his father jumpstart the battery.
What Mark hept to himself was that the resulting accident, gave Mark electrical powers.

    Shooting Star was impressed.

Mark took the name Sparky and became Shooting Star’s sidekick

    General Silverback

Mother Night, Queen of Nightmares, Lady of Fear, Mistress of Fright

    the mammoth magman Magmoth

    The Triumverate
