META: UGO Forums now closed

The HeroMachine Forums at UGO.com are now officially closed to new posts. They will remain up for the foreseeable future as a static repository for all of the awesome stuff that went on there over the years, but starting today no one will be able to add anything.

Instead, I would urge you to use the forums here at HeroMachine.com for all of your character-sharing, comics-discussing needs.

I would also like to take this opportunity to publicly thank WillyPete, the longtime moderator of the forums there. His service has always been the major determining factor in keeping those going as long as we did, and I can’t say enough how much I appreciate it. You are the man, WillyPete!

About Jeff Hebert

Jeff is a 44 year old city boy who has somehow found himself located in Colorado, fulfilling his lifetime dream of making a living drawing super-heroes all day.

  1. I’d like to add to Jeff’s praise of WillyPete, I personally have found him very helpful as forum Moderator on the old Heromachine forum over the years and I can only hope to be able to handle the Job of forum Moderator here on these forums as well as he did!

  2. That’s a weird coincidence. I just visited the old forum today for the first time in months and saw the locks. Had me wondering until Mr. Hebert posted this thread.

  3. Okay, maybe this will serve as the warning shot to get back on track moving my gallery over to the new forum. You know, just in case.

In the meantime, I too would like to extend my thanks to WillyPete for his work as a moderator, and for generally making my time there enjoyable.

  4. Thanks for the heads-up on the forums closing, Jeff. I promptly went over there an downloaded images of all my characters–as Myro said, just in case. If you hadn’t said anything, I wouldn’t have known, and if UGO.com removes those forums completely, as I suspect they will sooner or later, I might have lost access to my own characters forever.

  5. WillyPete is the best! Any chance he will be taking part in the forum sandbox? Kind of sad about the old forum. It was a great place to visit.

Thank you all for the accolades! Much appreciated!
As for participating in the new Forums, I kind of keep ‘meaning to’, so I probably will, one of these days…
My big question is, does anyone here actually want a return to the Contest threads we had back there?
Yes, a lot of the artists we have here do really AWESOME pictures… but they also complain about the story requirement I had. To me, a picture, however glorious, is something you look at, and move on from… It’s the story that made the difference in many of the old contest posts.
