Hall of Faves

I finally updated the "Hall of Fame" with the last dozen contest winners (thanks to reader Meres for the kick in the pants) and was once again blown away by your creativity and talent. So instead of our usual RPG day today, I was hoping you'd take a bit to go through the Hall of Fame images and give us one or two of your particular favorites, along with why you like them, what you think makes for a good design, and anything else that occurs to you.

Sometimes I find it very inspirational to look through galleries of cool artwork, and I want to spend today feeling that way. I hope you do, too.

WOW! First I want to say thank you for the inclusion to the Hall of Fame. There are many great pics and Heromachiners that I admire and really had learnt alot from. Zyp, Dblade, DiCicatriz, Imp, Papakrok are just a few that have inspired me to make the pics that I create. Big Cheers to them!

And looking forward, there are many new talents coming down the pipe and can’t wait to see what the future brings.

Jeff, I have one request. This pic from Sean Davis Ross, http://forums.ugo.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=78777&d=1309832772, is the pic that made my jaw drop when I first saw it. I don’t think I have had the same reaction to any other than when opening this image for the first time. I’m requesting that you make it an honorary inclusion to the Hall of Fame because of its AWESOMENESS! I also suggest to all new rookie Heromachiners that you check out this guys post in the old forum. He will teach you many things about posing and coloring to become the next Hall of Famer!

Sean David Ross is indeed a master, and I’d be delighted to include his work in the HoF. But, I’d need his permission for anything that wasn’t submitted through HeroMachine.com. It’s his work and I don’t really have the right to just nab it, since it was put on UGO and not here.

I should also say that if anyone wants to nominate a particular piece that someone else has done for HoF consideration, feel free!

My two personal favs are Soldiers Cross and E L-T.O.R.O. Battle armor.

General Dinosaur still makes me laugh!

  5. Definitely ams’ “EL-T.O.R.O. Battle Armor.” It has my two favorite themes: mechs and machisma!

From the HoF, my favourite is definitely Zyp’s “Hammer”

Maybe people have advanced their colouring and shading techniques by now but that illustration has energy and drama to burn. I want to see the rest of the story!

Other non HoF pieces which I’d like to see there include Alvacascus’s “Home Late”, which is HM being used really imaginatively in a different graphic style:

and Iscarioto’s “Batteries Not Included”, just because it makes me laugh everytime I see it.

All of these are great but the ones that stand out for me are AMS’ EL-T.O.R.O and Ploughed Jester’s Soldier’s Cross.

EL-T.O.R.O. has a clean graphic design with good color contrast. You can see all the elements, but they’re not 4-color primaries. I also like the lighting effects and the natural body language.

Soldier’s Cross tells a story. I love that. The character acting, as they say in animation, is powerfully effective. The silhouette and the lens flare (genius) really sell it.

    Thanks for the nomination, Ams!

Jeff, you have my permission to use any Heromachine generated image that I created and posted to the UGO forums.

    Cheers,
    Sean

Thanks for the link to the Dark Hall. Very few of my favourite Heromachine images are represented in the Hall of Fame, so I’m happy if people will get a chance to see some of the non-contest-winning works created by Zyp, Papakrok, and others. I would nominate any image in that collection – but the one’s with an asterisk beside the title are the ones I like best of all…..

Jeezum Pete, that’s an incredible collection!

I can tell I’m going to have to put aside my “prior approval” scruples and just steal like a demon.
