Power User Profile: TOOL

I'm happy to bring back the Power User Profiles for at least one week, featuring longtime contributor TOOL!

  1. Online name used in HeroMachine environs: TOOL
  2. What is the secret origin of that name: My last name is Stanley, like the Stanley Tools, no relation unfortunately other wise I would be enjoying a vodka martini on some private island that I owned.
  3. A photo (or drawing) of you in "real life":
  4. Real name: Cameron Stanley
  5. Real city/state/country: Beeville, Texas of the USA
  6. Real job: Federal Officer for 3 years now, but have 6 years government time from the military.
  7. Real age: 27
  8. Gender: All man, wait...one, two, and three, yeah all man.
  9. Relationship status (married, single, in a long-term relationship, dating someone, "it's complicated", etc): Married with 4 children, what can I say I got started young, but by the time they are out of the house I will be young enough to enjoy my retirement.

  10. Online archive of your creations: I have many different folders of stuff for your viewing pleasure but here's my personal stuff I have made.
  11. The best piece of HeroMachine art you've created: I know some of you all have seen this one but when I scroll through my eye comes to rest on this one.

  12. Favorite all-time geeky movie if any: I am not really sure what would be a "Geeky" movie for me, does all the Dragon Ball series count. I like them all, the original, Z, and GT.
  13. Favorite all-time geeky book if any: I love any book by R.A. Salvatore, especially ones about Drizzt Do' Urden!
  14. Favorite all-time geeky TV show if any: Most of the shows that I have liked or loved on TV have been one hit wonders. Firefly, Dresden Files, Jon Doe, but there are a few that made it longer like Heroes, Supernatural, or Merlin.
  15. Favorite all-time comic book character if any: Deadpool of course! I love the way he can make a joke as he puts a bullet between your eyes, then turn right around and be ready for some Mexican food.
  16. If you could have one super-heroic power in real life, you'd choose: Its kinda hard to put into a specific name, but its kinda like if Rogue and Peter from Heroes had a kid. Absorption and assimilation, I could take the life force, knowledge, and powers from others and add it to my own collective by touching them. Look out other PUP's I am coming for you Ha Ha Ha, just kidding.

  17. In your leisure time you like to: I like to play on Face book, play video games, play with my kids, or work out. I dunno, I am just kinda laid back and try to go with the flow and have fun!

  18. Character design turn-ons (things you love to see that make for a good design): I love it when someone uses an item in a way that it is not intended for, when I have to stare and say how did they do that? Take your time and make something really eye catching that you can be proud of!
  19. Character design turn-offs (things you hate to see that make for a bad design): I hate it when someone tries to make a character look evil by just making everything so dark that you cant even see the character or tell where he/she/it ends and everything else in picture begins. Also when there are easy to spot mistakes in a character like an unmasked hand, or one leg on top of improper layering. Proof your art before you post because once you put it out there its out there, trust me...
  20. Best tip for a HeroMachine newbie: The best tip I can give to a new user on HM is to play around with different items and themes for a character. Don't jump right into the first contest you see, wait and see how things are done. Read the rules that Jeff puts out! See what you like and dislike and assimilate some things for yourself but make it your own, don't steal exact skills. Participate in critiques with a proper attitude to take what good or bad comes along and learn from it and you will become an artist all your own.
  21. Any personal message you'd like to share with the HeroMachine community about Geek Life: My wife likes to pick on me because she says she didn't realize how much of a "geek" I was before we married. I was rough, in the military, and lived in the country. Just because you have some nerd in you doesn't mean you have to have taped glasses and a pocket protector. Be who "you" want to be, whoever that may be. I hope that life helps make you a well rounded person with different characteristics and experiences, good and bad. Its through the good and bad that we grow into who we are. God Bless.

  2. ams says:

Federal Officer? A geek with a gun? Whoa!

Congrats on the Power User status! Good stuff!

  3. TOOL says:

Awesome! Thanks Jeff, it looks and feels great to be among the power users now.

  4. Arioch says:

Very nice picture with your son, this is quite sweet 🙂

    And thanks for your art!

  5. dblade says:

Congratulations, TOOL! Welcome to the INNER CIRCLE! Your hooded cloak and mask are in the mail!

And your son is adorable. He will make a fine henchman for you.

  6. Tarkabarka says:

Welcome in the club TOOL. I think your name join for the band TOOL 😛 Congratulate, you really reserved for it.

  7. McKnight57 says:

Welcome to the club, dude. You’ve done some great stuff. You deserve this.

  8. Myro says:

Congrats Tool. You deserved it. And I loved the Austin Powers quote from your man check.

  9. CPrime says:

Congrats, Tool. It’s been a longtime dream of mine to make it into this esteemed club of sorts. Hopefully one day, I’ll be at that level.

Yeah… my dreams are pretty limited. I don’t have a lot of ambition in life…

  10. Trekkie says:

Congrats, TOOL! You definitely deserved to become a Power User.

Also, that is a very nice picture of you and your son.

  11. The Atomic Punk says:

Congratulations, TOOL. I’m actually surprised by how many present and former military who I know and have met who read comics and play RPGs. I’d think most would be like my nephew who is in the Army. He plays video games and listens to… what’s the word for something other than music? Oh, yeah… “crap.”

I like your straight-forward, clean designs. No backgrounds, solid color choices, not a lot of excessive or impractical items. This is also a great approach for anyone who wants to add his or her hero to an RPG character sheet. That’s how I discovered HeroMachine.

  12. MScat says:

Congrats TOOL! glad to know a little more about you

  13. TOOL says:

Thanks everyone for your words! Yeah my son is a Q T and he is almost 3 but as big as my 7 yr old LOL. @Dblade, you can keep the cloak and stuff just give me a fearsome metal mask, and a leather jacket and I will be ready to hit the streets of crime. @Myro, yeah I didn’t know if anyone would catch the Austin Powers bit, cherio to you sir! @CPrime, Just keep putting yourself out there and do your best and its quite posible you could be a PUP too! @The Atomic Punk, I would think it kinda goes hand in hand playing RPG’s and being in the military, when I wasn’t sniping people in real life I was knocking them dead in games, whats that LT oh Im doing some virtual training. I listen to rock music, I hope that’s not the crap you were refering to as well.

  14. Jessica says:

Congrats, TOOL on making the PUP Team. And by the way, I think Supernatural is the best show ever and I have soft spots for Firefly, Heroes, and Merlin too. Don’t think I’ve ever seen Dresden Files or Jon Doe but I keep meaning to check them out. And of course you’re right, Deadpool rocks! Did you like Ryan Reynolds in Wolverine? Or are you more about the comic book Deadpool? And by the way, I definitely think a kid by Rogue and Peter would make an awesome combination. Peter was my favorite character on Heroes. So sad that show ended so suddenly…

  15. TOOL says:

@Jessica, Here’s a pic to what Dresden Files is, http://www.videoclub.com.es/images/series/the_dresden_files.jpg, Most of my favorite shows have been one hit wonders alas, much like John Doe, http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_XBvFfrA1jjU/SelTCYJ3SUI/AAAAAAAAExc/Z9G1DZ_r3f0/s400/John_Doe_%28TV_series%29.jpg. I like Ryan Reynolds in most stuff and his smartass attitude fits him to Deadpool, but they F’d him up in the movie, Comic Deadpool is better. http://epicponyz.files.wordpress.com/2009/06/deadpool-kills-movie-version.jpg

  16. ams says:

How about RoccoPio for a Power User nom. That guy makes about 10 pics a day!

  17. TOOL says:

@Jeff, so is the PUP taking place of the Pop Quiz for this Saturday?

  18. Jeff Hebert says:

Correct. Today is a travel day for me and I kind of need a break.

  19. TOOL says:

@Jeff, No problem, have a fun stress free day!

  20. Jessica says:

@TOOL, when I think of the Deadpool movie version I have to say that I split him up into two different parts. I liked him at the beginning of the movie. Smart-ass killing machine was awesome. But the end of the movie sucked. I mean, what kind of idiot silences the “Merc-With-A-Mouth”? Ain’t right. However, I am excited for the new Deadpool movie because they said they were totally going to remake him so hopefully he won’t be like he was in Wolverine. I do like Ryan Reynolds though. He is a fantastic actor. I totally don’t see why everyone hated him in Blade Trinity. I thought he was hilarious and bad-ass at the same time. I like action actors that can still make you laugh. It means you have depth. I’m also going to have to look into both those shows. I vaguely remember seeing something about The Dresden Files but I think I was really busy at the time. And John Doe looks good.

  21. McKnight57 says:

You know what, I forgot something else. TOOl, thanks for your service in the armed forces. I mean that sincerely. I try and make a habit of saying it to anyone who does or has served in the military, so thank you and again, congratulations.

  22. Kytana says:

I gratualtion a little bit late, you have always good stuff. And i am also a fan of R.A. Salvatore.

  23. Hammerknight says:

Welcome aboard Tool. Did Jeff send you your check yet?

  24. TOOL says:

@Jessica, you should check them out sometime, it kinda sucks because you get sucked in then it ends with no more seasons but I still watch them from time to time, I am going through Heroes again. @McKnight57, Thanks, I appreciate it every time some one shows respect to soldiers. @Kytana, do you have a favorite book or character, I started off with “The Sea Of Swords” I think that’s what it was. Theres some other good books from the forgotten realms writers too. @Hammerknight, wait there’s a bonus check that comes along with this?! Lord knows in this economy I could use a bail out myself LOL

  25. Kytana says:

I read the forgotten realms books, most from that, but not anything of them. I find the dark elf triology (1-6)are the best,at one time its sad and in the other brutal. It is a little bit a expample for my own storys.
Oh, and i want read the next jedi order(“Das Erbe der Jedi Ritter- Die Abtrünnigen” in german), he have also written. Its the first book of a long book series. When i have time…

  26. Bael says:

I mean, what kind of idiot silences the “Merc-With-A-Mouth”?

Generally speaking, anyone with the opportunity gives it a shot. Mind you, the attempt tends to go pear shaped on them…

  27. McKnight57 says:

Jessica: I mean, what kind of idiot silences the “Merc-With-A-Mouth”? Ain’t right. P>

I gotta go with Bael on this one. Pretty much everyone who ever had the opportunity takes it at least once. If I recall correctly, the longest he ever went without talking was about 10 minutes. I can’t recall if Wolverine was the record-holder or the second Black Widow from the second iteration of the Thunderbolts. Either way, greatest ten minutes of silence ever. You know, unless your girlfriend/wife’s mother gets laryngitis. I’m kidding. I would never say that (out loud).

It was Wolverine, in the Secret Hydra Base, with the Adamantium Claws! I ruled at Clue. Seriously though, I remember that issue, and Wolverine had decapitated Deadpool, leaving Bob to try to reattach Deadpool’s head (the first attempt, he had tried putting Deadpool’s head on backwards). Deadpool’s though caption after said his “tongue felt weird” from not talking.

  29. Herr D says:

Tool: Did you have the same feelings abt Gonzo as you did about Drizzt?
As for Deadpool, I figured part of his healing was jibe-powered.

Bael: What does attempt going pear-shaped mean? what shape is successful–circular?

  30. Bael says:

    Herr D:
What does attempt going pear-shaped mean? what shape is successful–circular?

Yes, actually. As I recall, the phrase tracks back to RAF slang for a failed attempt at a proper circular loop. Generally, it means that things have gone horribly, horribly wrong. As many things do when Deadpool becomes involved.

  31. Vampyrist says:

Although a bit late, Congratulations on PUP status. I agree with Jessica in regards to Ryan Reynolds as Deadpool. There were two different characters in that movie. The awesome deadpool as he should’ve been, albeit with out a mask, and the crappy Frankenstein monster like thing, only without the actual sympathy which accompanies the real Frankenstein monster.

  32. TOOL says:

Sorry Herr D I guess I don’t know or remember who Gonzo is, unless you mean sesame street which i think you dont
