Two titans battling it out in the heart of a major city, one atomic-fire-filled giant lizard and one space alien transforming robot! It's technology versus biology, West versus East, rubber suit versus CGI in a battle for the ages. Who will win? Only you can decide!
Lay out your case in the comments and may the vest best giant creature win!
Fluid, Competent thought, would provide a Superior fighting edge VS Instinct
Optimus – unless he needs to die for our sins
OPTIMUS PRIME
Pros: Legions of Autobots at his command, the Matrix, an inability to die and stay dead.
Cons: Dies frequently, too honorable, prefers talking over fighting, cares too much for humans.
GODZILLA
Pros: Incredibly strong, great healing ability, not many man made weaknesses.
Cons: Can be paralyzed via the second brain in his spine, vulnerable to electricity (not lightning though), incredibly weak against the Oxygen Destroyer and ANEB.
Okay, Optimus wins, easily.
I don’t think we can include the entire legion of Autobots as part of this fight. I was thinking more one-on-one.
Sorry, but the only way that I can see Optimus win the battle, is that he uses his intellect against Godzilla, and somehow tricks him into a trap. After all, Big G isn’t a sentinent creature like Optimus. In all his versions he has been shown as an animal – with varying levels of intellect, sometimes exhibiting the ability to remember, but in the end, Godzilla is a creature of pure instinct. Optimus would have the advantage of brains over brawn.
Unfortunately, I fear that this would be Optimus only advantage against Godzilla. Godzilla is at least double, if not thrice as big as Optimus; he has proven himself to being nigh indestructible, and let’s not forget his thermonuclear breath. When it comes to raw power, Godzilla surpases Optimus by far. The leader of the autobots would never survive a direct confrontation with the radioactive fire-breathing lizard. All things considered, my money is not on Optimus Prime.
that is a point – I neglected to consider sizes
Optimus wins, Brain > Instinct. Optimus would turn into a truck to lure Godzilla away from the city then if he hadn’t already, he would figure out how to defeat him.
Optimus Plan
Step 1. Don’t watch Godzilla movies as refrence he is never the same
…
Step 6. Sacrifice self in order to defeat the overgrown lizard
Note to self* Next time just send Grimlock
Are we talking G1 Optimus vs Original Godzilla, or the craptastic movie Optimus vs the 1998 “Godzilla”. If it’s the second one, we all lose.
I gotta go with the lizard. Godzilla already defeated Mechagodzilla, so a little truck-bot is no problem.
Is this even a contest? Optimus Prime is the size of a truck. Godzilla is the size of a building. He could crush Optimus beneath his giant lizard foot and not even realize he’d done it.
One shall stand. One shall fall.
And in this case, Tokyo best look out below when Godzilla plummets face first into several blocks worth of street. C’mon, we’re talking about a military strategist armed with energon weaponry and a deus ex machina in the event s&%t gets too real butting heads with an irradiated dinosaur– my money and hopes are pinned on Optimus.
optimus will kick godzilla’s ass then say some badass line (ala’ “give me your face” to megatron) as he rips off godzilla’s tail and knocks his head off with it
Hey, no fair making fun of Godzilla’s inability to even speak, much less make pithy one-liners!
So Godzilla is the size of a skyscraper, no biggies, Optimus is used to fighting giants, Devastator, Bruticus, Menasor, Predaking, Abominus, Piranacon, Trypticon, and lets not forget the biggest of them all, a PLANET sized enemy Unicron!
The Matrix of Leadership shall light our Darkest Hour!
May the “vest” giant creature win? An odd typo to make, given that neither of them wear clothes.
I’m giving it to Optimus Prime on this one. Godzilla might be bigger, but my guess is he isn’t going to do much after having his hamstrings chopped by a Cybertronian axe. Game, set, match.
Oops! Thanks Myro, type corrected.
Optimus Prime would win by a margin, though mostly because he can turn into a truck, which aside from turning into Batman, is one of the best abilities ever. Also, extreme damage (and plot holes) can be fixed with excessive amounts of energon and/or explosions.
Big G has outfought and outsmarted every robot ever thrown against him by all the science of Earth and beyond. Where does this kid’s toy get off even stepping into the ring? Godzilla uses semis for nunchucks!
its Godzilla!!!!!!!!!!!!
I have to admit, I am surprised that Optimus is winning this so handily.
godzilla is just a big lizard, but optimus is a freakin’ alien robot!
Let’s see, a giant alien robot that transforms into an eighteen wheeler (aka redneck getaway truck) that has repeatedly defeated a buch of other giant robots versus a giant Komodo Dragon that got super-powered and has single-handedly leveled Tokyo more often than Magneto has changed sides, and breathes atomic fire from his mouth and kicked the crap out of a giant mechanized version of himself on multiple occasions.
Personally I’m gonna go with the giant nuclear-powered iguana. Godzilla has a much longer history (both in comics and on film) than Transformers have had. Despite the craptastic nature of it, he also was in a movie with Ferris Bueller (Matthew Broderick). A sentient robot against a giant mutant wrath-filled death lizard is not a battle I personally want to watch. Mostly because I don’t really want to get stepped on or crushed when one of them falls. Yeah, gonna go with the enormous lizard from hell on this one. Also, the fact that the kid from Even Stevens was in all of the movies, takes points away from Optimus.
I was a kid when Transformers first came out. I never got into them. I didn’t get what the big deal was about a robot changing into a vehicle (the guy that could turn into a boom box was a different story). It was like “He can change from a boring form to an even more boring form!!!” I still don’t understand why Transformers are so popular but to each their on. Godzilla on the other hand is a giant radioactive atomic fire-breathing monster who eats cities for breakfast. There’s a reason the letters “GOD” are in his name. Here’s what would happen. Godzilla would step on Optimus Prime and not even notice. The end.
Well said, sir. I concur.
Best Batman/Optimus Primus reference ever! 😉
I say Godzilla. Ever see a bird buzzing a cat? Cat is all “yeah, whatever.” Bird keeps swooping in. Suddenly, bam! Ninja-kitty.
Tough one, at least for me, since I don’t know the extent of OP’s abilities, tho I suspect he gets new ones depending on plot requirements. And there’s a conflict in my brain: The old adage that a good big guy will beat a good little guy any day VS. my recollection of the Ultimates Captain America putting the smackdown on the Ultimates Giant-Man. Both are applicable.
In the end I went with Old Rubbersuit. Optimus’ first problem in the fight would be getting Godzilla to notice he was there.
I have an idea for next weeks poll, We’ll Keep with Godzilla and replace Optimus with Voltron.
Better yet, Optimus Prime versus the Power Rangers Mega Zord (original series).
Hey none of you are remembering Optimus’ flying attachment. That neutralises the size issure because he can fly around Godzilla and still shoot his energon weapons in the lizard’s face. Optimus is smarter and has the experience. Godzilla has only ever fought man made enemies whereas Optimus is an alien race form more powerful and intelligent than anything Godzilla has fought before.
a laser plus sword giant bot thing vs a fat city eating giant human lets see optimus would laser and cutting godzillas leg clear off with blood and guts shouting out or on the other side optimus driveing than godzila smashes him out of nowhere
also for the next poll it shold be Johnny Gat from srtt vs mario Johnny wins no dolt
don’t get me wrong, i enjoy the “so bad it’s good” godzilla movies but Optimus Prime is just a bigger badass, plus it takes alot more to kill Optimus then it does godzilla, in one movie they got godzilla to go away by playing a frequency to make him follow migrating birds leaving japan
Not true. Godzilla has fought giant E.T.s and alien invaders armed with advanced technology repeatedly.
I don’t know much about either guy, but I’d go with Optimus, partly because from what I know, Godzilla is used to fighting enemies his own size, so having to deal with something much small and faster that can still sting just as bad as he can is tough. Also, from what I know, Optimus’ greatest power is the Matrix, which just like the sonic screw driver and Millennium Puzzle, is a plot device. I could be totally wrong here (no very knowledgeable about transformers) but I believe it is a vaguely established power that changes to fit the plot, and that power always wins, ALWAYS!
Exactly! There was Ghidorah, Gigan, Mecha Godzilla the first one, Space Godzilla, and Orga.
Plus there was nothing man made about Mothra or King Kong.
My first reaction to all this is as follows…ARE U FREAKING KIDDING ME!
Transformers can be beaten by the military Godzilla cannot…only once has godzilla been killed by the military but he came back.
I think this is more of a popularity contest…Optimus is more popular so he wins. But if u watch ANY of the Godzilla movies…ANY OF THEM you would know godzilla is not a monster…he is a force of nature like a tidal wave or a hurricane, and optimus wouldn’t be able to stop him. I’m not saying it’d be an easy defeat but it would be a defeat all the same. If optimus had backup then maybe but one on one optimus will lose.
I’m a fan of both transformers and godzilla and I love optimus but there’s no chance he could beat the king of the Kaiju. Gamera maybe but not godzilla.
Also someone had mentioned how optimus had fought huge enemies before line unicron…optimus (to my knowledge) only fought unicron once in the new transformers prime series he has never fought unicron alone before. In the first movie optimus was dead before unicron ever appeared.
And id like to mention the matrix of leadership is strong against other transformers but against a biological it isn’t useful. It boils down to brute strength and godzilla has more of that.
(It’s just like Batman contests…he’s more popular so he wins everything…no offense to Batman for he is awesome)
I own every godzilla movie and i cant find or remember the movie where he followed birds out of the city. which one are u reffering to
Optimus’s Weapon would be mostly ineffective against Godzilla true. They would injure him off course but not enough to make a real difference. The deciding factor and the reason I think Optimus takes this is the Matrix of Leadership.
The Matrix contains a small portion of the essence of Primus which is a God. With just a small portion of its power the Matrix blew Unicron a PLANET to bits. Using the Full power of the Matrix Optimus was able to cure if not a universe wide, at least a Galaxy wide plague the drove all who contracted it insane with rage. If Prime turns loss the power of the Matrix on Godzilla its game over.
I remember at least one Godzilla movie where the indestructible beast was tracking down nuclear subs and reactors and eating their energy. Godzilla gets a whiff of Energon and he will hunt down and devour the whole Transformer contingent on Earth! Godzilla has been hit with advanced plasma weapons, nukes, and volcanoes – none have been able to do more than annoy him (okay, the volcano trapped him for a while). Nothing I’ve seen Optimus do would stop the King of the Monsters.
Once again, I seem to be supplying an ignored perspective:
In some of the Godzilla canon, Godzilla was basically a guardian of nature. So even tho he’d flatten a city, he’d be there to fight whatever damaged Japan’s ability to last–with or without people, depending on the author. YIKES. Would one version of defeating Godzilla be sending him away?
1. Optimus sees G coming, diverts to pathway G will trample fewer people.
2. Optimus uses radio modem to look up facts noted above.
3. O rapidly constructs anti-tsunami port-friendly waterbreak.
4. G roars as he feels himself being ‘stored’ for next time.
That is a staggeringly good point.
