META: New blog look test

I spent the last couple of days implementing the last blog layout change we discussed a few weeks ago. I've got it running on a test server if you want to take a look via this link and let me know what you think. Obviously it doesn't have any real content in it beyond one post I cut and pasted, but you're looking for the basic layout and not the words that go in it, if that makes sense.

I did change the header up significantly; when I sat down to actually code it, enough time had gone by to let me look at it with fresh eyes and I decided the original was just too heavy and busy. I think this one is a lot cleaner and easier on the eyes. I also changed the footer to match the new UGO look a bit better, and did away with the gradient at the bottom.

I look forward to hearing your thoughts. If there are no huge problems I'll probably roll this out live overnight, which involves a bit of scariness in upgrading the WordPress version.

  1. I like it. Not too crazy about the color scheme, but the new buttons are good, and the overall layout is good, too…

  2. It would help if you put the community and contact buttons under the featured character
cuz right now it seems like there is just a void there and the community and contact buttons seem out of place at the end

  3. Clean and crisp i like it

  4. That’s pretty cool. It is easy on the eyes, I like it too.

  5. Overall agreeable. I suggest using instead of “white”. The official designation for #f5f5f5 is “ghost”. It’s a dull white that I find easier on the eyes, reduces glare and contrast.

  6. I’ll miss the light blue and the old, colourful headers with the complete caps titles. But everything meets an expiration date, out with the old and in with the new and clean cut. It’s clear where everything is, there’s no mass confusion where the creators or post sections are. I think for someone just entering the site, this would be as easy as anything to navigate. Just going to miss the colour while the adds suck it up.

  7. Old, new, either one is fine with me.

  8. I really like the featured character thing. I’m not a big fan of the new pegasus symbol, I think the current one looks more slick (any chance we can get that as an insignia?). Other than that, i like it.

Really, the “Featured Character” thing was the only part I really liked…
Of course, I’m not a real ‘graphics guru’…
