Character Design Contest ♯29- Oh My Gods

Ok, for this weeks character design contest I want you to give me your interpretation of a god from mythology (none of the major world religions please, we don't want to cause offence, unintentional or otherwise). However, I'm going to give one rule......

No_Gods_Image-Zeus

NO GREEK/ ROMAN OR NORSE GODS

They've been done to death. There are plenty of other pantheons to pilfer from.

As I said, it is your interpretation, so it doesn't have to be historically accurate (you can do modern day superhero versions if you want), but keep the theme of whoever you're doing and please make sure I can tell who it is (links to wiki pages may help, I don't have an encyclopaedic knowledge of all mythology).

Anyway, you have until Sunday. No limits on entries. Have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren't certain, don't enter it, because I'm not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

I agree about the whole Greek, Roman, & Norse thing. It’s odd that seemingly every author/artist/whatever keeps going back to those three when there’s plenty of other equally inspiring deities out there. Having said that…

    Entry #1
    Quetzalcoatl (Mayan): http://i1165.photobucket.com/albums/q583/Shan_Renxin/Renxin-Quetzalcoatl_zpscedf61a7.png

No greeks gods?! Damn, I’m just finishing my work on the whole pantheon. Well, it can’t be helped. So here a supervillain version of a mayan god I did a while ago but never showed anywhere:

Hun Came – mayan lord of the underworld (Xibalbá):

No wiki, but here’s something about him:

@Renxin: Quetzalcoatl is an aztec god, not a mayan one. His counterpart at the mayans would be Gukumatz (or Q’uq’umatz)… 😉

*Facepalm* Good catch. I knew I’d made a mistake, but the ol’ gray matter didn’t register it until (of course) the second after I hit the button. Forget my own head next! @_@

  4. Vampyrist says:

Just wondering, are personifications acceptable. For example, personifications of death/time/fate/other concept or psychopomps?
    Also this should be fun.

  5. Worf says:

Man, I remembered another rendition of the “feathered serpent” from way back and went searching for it… Turns out it was WAY WAY back. All the way to Jeff’s contest #2 in 2009.

Anyway here’s the link to the post that lists those finalists.

No real reason… Just thought it would be cool to reminisce. (Am I showing my “HM age”?) 😉

I’d rather just keep it as gods, however there are definitely gods representing a few of those concepts, so you could try them.

I’ve decided to do a whole load of Egyptian gods.
First up is Hathor/Sekhmet (she is both-in my opinion schitzo)
Goddess of love, music, dance AND Goddess of the sun/the Eye of Ra.

I would just like to draw peoples attention to the first thing I said in this contest post.
“for this weeks character design contest I want you to give me your interpretation of a god from mythology (none of the major world religions please, we don’t want to cause offence, unintentional or otherwise).”

By mythology, I mean a religion that is defined as such because it is no longer believed in by the majority of people from its land of origin.
And by MAJOR WORLD RELIGION I mean one of the 5 most popular religions still believed in by the majority of the population of the Earth. (i.e. Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism & Sikhism). If you do a piece representing a god from one of these religions it will not be allowable, no matter how good it is.
Please read the full post properly before you start doing stuff, it means you won’t end up wasting time doing stuff that’s ineligible.
    Thanks

So does that mean it’s good, even though its ineligible?
