Nice Helm
I always thought Dr. Fate got pretty poorly used in most series. Granted I haven’t read anything with him/her/them/it in it in a while, but still… short end of the stick. You know?
I agree, they never really seemed to know what do with him. He was stuck halfway between being just a regular spandex-clad super-hero guy and a Dr. Strange full-on Mystic Warrior. I personally thought they should have gone the latter route, an Order Knight kind of thing.
For me, though, it was always all about the helm. I love that thing.
Dr Fate has been one of my favs since reading old all-star squadron comics as a kid. The helmet was definitely a big selling point, too. Great choice of subject for a pic, Jeff!
Hmm…. weird timing Jeff…. Have you been watching Smallville?????
he was on small ville freeze guy stole the helmet from his body
Nice rendering. I noticed the exposed ears. Other artists have drawn Dr. Fate wtih his ears protuding from the helment. Just from the stand-point of vulnerability…
It doesn’t make a lot of sense from a real armor point of view, no, but that’s the way they do it in Order-town, I guess. I did change up his cap a bit, usually he has these odd shoulder bulge things and the cape’s just on his back, but I always thought it should come up in the front instead.
More like a clasp than shoulderpads. It does give him a leaner look. More hoplite than centurion.
I noticed the ears probably from playing GURPS and Champions. Always looking for that critical blow. Our campaigns tended to be “realistic”. That’s one of the reasons why I create characters with little obvious foci. Unless the tone is cinematic.

Y’ever wonder why they went with the half-mask? I mean, I know the story reason, but really? It looked a bit lame.
I agree, the half-mask was a desecration.
