Power User Profiles: Suleman

So, as promised, Power User Profiles are coming back for a short run. Don't expect this to be very regular, on a weekly schedule or anything, I'll be posting these as soon as one of the people I've contacted gets back to me, though I'll try and have them up on a Tuesday like they used to be.

Anyway, this weeks featuree, what to say about him. Well, personally, I'd say he's probably one of the most overlooked creators in the community. His work isn't all that flashy, but his poses are always excellent, his shading atmospheric and his costumes manage to tread that oh so fine line of being visually appealing and believably functional in real life. Whether it be fantasy, oriental crime or wrestling, his work is never short of fantastic. Which isn't bad for someone who claims they don't know what they're doing. So ladies and gentlemens, please welcome to the Power User club, Suleman.

And this week the winner is...Keric! Simple, well composed and beautifully coloured. Please join me in congratulating Keric.

See you Saturday!

Character Design Contest ♯140- Getting Emotional

Okay guys, going all kinds of throw-back here, well, for me anyway. On the suggestion of Sabrina on last weeks CDC suggestions blog post, we're going to revisit the theme for what was my third contest in charge of the CDC's. What I want you guys to do is create a character or abstract piece that represents an emotion. It can be any emotion, so joy, fear, anger etc. but you can only portray one per picture, unless you're doing ambivalence, in which case, good luck.

As per usual, no limits on entries and the contest will close at midnight Saturday (blog time). Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges that I am hosting: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warnings. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

HM3: Headbanging Good!

HM3_Items_092015

Whiz Bang presents the winning items from Poll #001. Ocean Master Helmet (well, it's kind of masky if you ask me) and Ant Man Helmet. You can find Ocean Master in Headgear/Fantasy and the Ant Man Helmet in Headgear/Military. I also created some ears using the Ocean Master artwork. These can be found in Ears/Standard. In addition I made a bishop hat (perfect for evil priest concepts), a crown-like headpiece ( I designed this for my villain character, Sovereign), and another piece that reminds me of an eraser head (I'm sure the Machinists will find some use for it). The bishop hat and crown piece can be found in Headgear/Fantasy and the eraser/stump hat can be found in Headgear/Modern. I've also included the Japanese mask that I made for Weilyn. I hadn't pointed out that this had gone live when I first uploaded it weeks ago so I included it with this post. It can be found in Headgear/Mask.

Character Design Contest ♯139 (Colourful) Poll

[polldaddy poll="9086357"]

Honourable Mentions go to: Anarchangel, Cliff, RobM & Vengeance

Character Design Contest ♯138 (Am I Evil)- Winner

So, this weeks poll was all about villains right, so of course it would be greatly contested to see who would come out on top. But I never expected it to be this close. Coming into the final few hours of voting, there were ties for both 1st place and 3rd place, which, had it stayed that way, would have been both unprecedented and hilarious. But unfortunately, some voting happened and we don't have any ties on the board what-so-ever. And the person who stole away the win from under the noses of everyone (and, looking at the entry, quite possibly murdered them in the process) was AMS for his entry Johnny Crazy. Congratulations AMS and can we get someone to go and check to see if Yin, MadJack, Anarchangel and Vampyrist are alive please?

JReviews: Doctor Who Series 9 Episode 1- The Magicians Apprentice

So, a new series of Doctor Who has begun. And we all know what that means. I am back again to ramble on in a timer-wimmy wibbley-wobbley fashion about the episodes. And due to the fact that I don't have a TARDIS of my own, I guess that the beginning is the only place we can really start.

Oh and by the way, River Song alert (a.k.a SPOILERS BELOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Not that River Song was in this episode, because that wouldn't be true. Anyway, getting on with it).

Pop Quiz – Ode To Autumn

On September 19,1819 John Keats wrote "Ode to Autumn."e5caef65481653c8fbf02c22159aa102

Your Pop Quiz challenge this time around is to celebrate autumn in any way that moves you – using Heromachine of course. Could be a landscape, a character, something abstract...whatever floats your boat.

There is no prize. There is no poll. The winner is chosen by me.

You only get one entry so be creative, and above all else, have fun!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine forums,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;
  • No copyrighted characters please – they will be deleted.
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.
  • Please make the link go directly to the image(like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this). See this post on how to get the direct link for most sites.

This contest will close at 9pm Eastern on Sunday, September 20th.

Suleman’s Tutorials #1: How to get started with basic shading in HM3

One of our own community members Suleman has put together a series of tutorials for HeroMachine 3.0 and has graciously allowed me to post them here on the blog for your use and enjoyment. I will be posting one a week for the next several weeks on Saturday morning, and here is our first one below after the Jump!

OCD (Open Critique Day) #32

How this goes:  You post a work of yours, finished or WIP, and then others give you critiques on your work. I do not mind if you post non-HM pictures or piece of writing. Just make sure that you only post pictures that are your own design and not any that are copyrighted or based off of copyrighted characters.

Also, if you post a work, it is highly recommended that you also give someone else a critique.

Even this is called Open Critique Day, I allow (even welcome!) for you guys to post and discuss on this for the weekend until 11:59 pm Sunday.
