Still looking for new blog authors

Hey guys JR here again.

So, last Monday I asked for volunteers to help write stuff for the blog. Of course, I haven't learnt my lesson from last time I tried to get the community involved in doing stuff for the blog, because I've only had one person get back to me.

It's not like I'm asking much, just one post a week on anything geeky you want. You don't have to put a huge amount of time into it if that's a big worry. Out of my numerous blog posts, I've never spent over an hour on a post. One hour a week to help keep the blog going and full of interesting content, is that too much to ask?

I'm going to give you guys another week (so until the 23rd) to come up with ideas and get them to me at jr19759@hotmail.co.uk but if I don't get 3 good ideas by then the whole idea is getting scrapped and you're just getting whatever the current blog authors feel like doing when they feel like doing it (which at the moment is two contests and one list each week) because obviously no-one else can be bothered to put the effort in, so why should we put any more effort in? We're not getting paid to do this people, we're just doing it out of love for the community and wanting to keep it going.

Oh and cheers to Herr D for being the one person to step up.

And with that JR out.

The List: Top 10 Superhero Rogues Galleries

There are a lot of things that go into making a great superhero. The powers, the costume, the personality, their alter-ego/ secret identity all play a huge role. But what really defines a hero is the villains that they face. Whether it be thwarting would-be world conquerors or sending back alley lunatics back to whatever jail it was they broke out of this time, the villains are a quintessential part of any superhero story. But who has the best collection of villains to face off against? I'm not including The Avengers or the Justice League on this list because, whilst they do have fantastic rogues galleries of their own, often they may end up fighting villains belonging to one of their members rogues galleries (Loki, looking at you here), so they'll be left off so we can keep things simple. Other superhero teams not made up of All-Star line-ups do count though.

Warning: 'Ere be opinions. Beware.

Untitled

Ok folks, this week your CDC Challenge is to re-imagine one of the Major Arcana Tarot Cards as a superhero or villain. The only restrictions in place are that you must use at least two examples of masking, and at least four examples of shading or highlighting. Click on the link for a list of possible options.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Major_Arcana

There is no limit on the number of entries. Please read the contest rules before entering, have fun and good luck. The contest will close at 9:00am Eastern on Sunday, August 21st.

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

 All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

And this week's winner...Cliff

This was a tough decision, but I think what put Cliff on top this week was the way he mirrored details of her jewelry / accessories in both her transformed, and non-transformed self. The character's story was clearly evident even without the the accompanying description.

Well done you!

Happy Birthday to Kaldath!

sh-bd

I just wanted to jump in quickly to wish our very own Kaldath a happy birthday!

It's been a rough couple of months for him health-wise, but he's done so much for this site and community that I didn't want the day to pass without wishing him well.

So to you, Kaldath, I hope you spend your day with friends and loved ones, having a ball and experiencing ZERO pain. Good luck man!

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • The image must be new and designed specifically for the Pop Quiz;

This contest will close at 6pm Eastern on Sunday, August 14th.

Another KHU …..

Kaldath Here with ,y newest Health update. As things stand at the moment, I am no longer on any prescription pain medication thus my pain levels have increased a bit but so far nothing I can not bare with the help of OTC pain meds.  I have completed my IV infusion treatments and have had my IV PICC line taken out. I just underwent a battery of tests to see if I can be put in the Hyperbaric chamber to aid my foot in healing, and speaking of the foot the doctor is concerned that one of the 3 injuries is not healing fast enough and that there may still be some bone infection which would result in me lossing more bone from my foot via amputation and I just had a CT scan to check that out so obviously not the best of news, but hopefully the scan shows me infection free. At the very least I have the weekend off for the first time from any kind of medical treatment. Tomorrow is my birthday and I thankfully will not need to spend it in a hospital or doctors office!!

The List: Top 10 Worst Superhero Films

Well, last week we did the best, so this week I'm being predictable. To clarify, I'm looking at films that were released by a major studio and given a full distribution (so nothing like Pumaman or other b-movie style superhero films and no straight to TV stuff like Swamp-Thing and obviously no Howard The Duck because whilst he was a comic book character he wasn't a superhero per se). As a little game, I want everyone to guess what number 1 is before reading and put down in the comments what you thought it would be and if you were right.

Honourable mentions have to go to Steel, Daredevil, both of the original Fantastic Four films and X-Men: Last Stand for being not quite terrible enough to get on this list despite a lot of people probably expecting them to be on here.

Warning: Opinions below. If your favourite film is on this list, get a new favourite film.

Looking for new blog authors

Hey guys, JR here.

So, as I'm sure everyone is now aware, Kaldath is going part-time as Head Moderator and I've been promoted to co-Head Mod. As such, I'm going to try and get the blog more active again. My idea is, I want 3 more blog authors to write articles for the blog on a weekly basis (or if you so wish, more than one article on a weekly basis). The sort of things I'm looking for are topical discussions on relevant subjects, reviews of recent releases (comics, TV shows and films, possibly books if appropriate), possibly Heromachine tutorials if someone wants to try that out. If you wanted to bring back one of the old blog topics that are no longer around, that would be acceptable as well (obviously the CDC's and Pop Quizzes are not included here because djuby is currently running those, neither is the Friday Night Fights or the Hall Of Fame, as these are special topics).

Now, I'm looking for 3 people, as I said earlier, who are dedicated and reliable. One problem we've had in the past is we add a new blog author, they do one or two posts and then nothing. I don't want that happening again. So if you want to give it a go, email me at jr19759@hotmail.co.uk with the email subject title Blog Author Idea and an outline of your topic idea (if you can include an example that would be useful) and your heromachine username, then I will pick the three people that I feel have the best ideas and will be the most reliable, pending approval from Jeff of course. I would also like to make this clear that, these are not moderator positions, just blog author.

So, yeah, I'm looking forward to seeing what you guys come up with.

With that.

JR out.
