Poll Position: Marvels Greatest Superheroine

Sorry this poll is up late guys, I was very busy yesterday.

Anyway, for this weeks poll, we're going to try to decide who is the greatest female hero in the history of Marvel comics. We're including anti-heroes, but no characters who usually come down on the villainous side of the moral spectrum but have occasionally been known to do some good.

As per usual, I've given you 10 to start and you can add your own suggestions. If you do add your own suggestions can you leave them in the same format I have on the poll (so, real name + superhero identity) so we can distinguish easily between characters who have shared the same or similar names.

What Were/ Are They Thinking: It appears we’ve DC-ed

So, usually here on What Were They Thinking (the series where we take a look at the stupidest and most ill-advised things to happen in comics history) we tend to look at storylines, what actually happens on the page. We might blame the people behind the scenes for their terribleness, but we've never actually called out the guys behind the scenes for being terrible. But today, we're going to be taking a look at Detective Comics Comics Inc. (yes, that it actually the full name of DC Comics) and the... lets just say interesting time they've had in recent years.

How They Should: Bring The Fantastic Four Into The MCU

So, the Fantastic Four. The first family of Marvel haven't had the best of times when it comes to transitioning to the big screen. The first two films were... let's be polite and say not very good and the reboot was somehow even worse. Meanwhile, Marvel have been building their own cinematic universe and it's been pretty good, even managing to incorporate Spider-Man, another icon who seemed forever lost in filmatic purgatory. So, assuming either Fox can come to a Sony-esque deal with Disney or the rights revert back to Marvel, let's take a look at how Marvels first super-team could make their way into the MCU.

caption-contest-82-blank

So here are my top 5

Herr D: Could be worse. We could have a reality TV star in charge.

Herr D: You’ve got the best hair of any candidate running. I can ALWAYS say SOMETHING positive.

Drinkfluid: You'll be sure to... TRUMP your rivals.

Drinkfluid: You should call this... LEXIT.

CantDraw: Too bad I don't use toilet paper when I wipe.

And the winner is...

The List: Top 10 Robots/ Androids In Film And TV

So, the votes are in. Before we get to the list, a quick bit of admin. I've had to disqualify Legion from Mass Effect, which got onto the poll without me realising, due to the fact that Mass Effect is neither a film nor a TV series at the moment, so therefore cannot qualify for a list of the best Robots/ Androids on Film and TV. Also, nobody thought to add C-3PO? I mean, I left him off my original 10 because I already had a Star Wars character, but leaving him out of the running entirely? Really guys?

But with that out of the way, the results are in, each vote has been analysed and we can now present to you your top 10.

Character Design Challenge #195 – Family Portrait

mg_7744-2

Your challenge this week is to create a vintage family portrait of at least three characters done completely in sepia tone.

This link will take you to an RBG colour chart so you can get a broader range of colours than HeroMachine offers.

http://cloford.com/resources/colours/500col.htm

Rules for posts, contests, and challenges: Original characters only, no copyrighted characters, no characters based on copyrighted characters, no characters based on RPG’s or other games. The characters must be your own design and not based on any character that might be copyrighted in any way. I have the right to delete any post that I believe crosses this line without warning. Only post characters that you have either created for this contest specifically or you know for certain have never been entered to a contest before. If you aren’t certain, don’t enter it, because I’m not going to go back through all of the contests and check.

All entries must be in JPG or PNG form (BMPs are too big), posted to a publicly accessible website (like the HeroMachine :,ImageShackPhotoBucket, or whatever);

  • Entries must be made as a comment or comments to this post, containing a link directly to the image and the character name;
  • Please name your filesas [your name]-[character name].[file extension] before you upload it. So DiCicatriz, for instance, would save his “Bayou Belle” character image as DiCicatriz-BayouBelle.png.

Please make the link go directly to the image (like this) and not to a hosting jump page (like this).

This contest will close on Sunday, November 20th at 9:00am Eastern.

Character Design Challenge #194 – The International Legion for Justice: Phase 2 – Results

Well you guys really stepped up this week! Great entries by all, but the two top entrants really nailed the 1940s vibe of the character.

Honourable mention goes to Brons.

brons-britannia

And the win goes to AMS.

I think what put AMS on top was the attention to detail like the belt components and the one closed eye as she takes aim are just great. Thanks to all who entered.

Arrival Review- Spoiler Free!

arrival-2016-soundtrack

Hey everyone, back again with another movie review! This time we’re talking about the newly-opened Arrival, based on the short story ‘Story of Your Life’ by Ted Chiang. In this film, alien ships suddenly show up at different locations around the world and humanity is trying to figure out why and how to communicate with them. I own and knew the story going in, so I perhaps went into this differently than someone who hadn’t in that I was looking it at not just as a film, but as an adaptation as well. I’m going to keep this one spoiler-free. To be honest, even though I also write spoiler reviews, I don’t think I’m going to for this one because it’s a film you should see and experience without foreknowledge, other than perhaps the source material. So let’s get right into it.
