Epic Games Store "definitely won't" Restrict Games with NFTs Epic Games founder and CEO Tim Sweeney says that Epic Games will not limit the sale or distribution of games with NFTs. Sweeney's comment follows a statement from Minecraft developer Mojang, which outlined its stance not to allow blockchain technology or NFTs in Minecraft. After Mojang's announcement, a fan reached out to Sweeney on Twitter to enquire whether Epic Games would take a similar stance, however Sweeney responded in the negative. He states that developers should be able to decide what games they want to create and that you can decide whether or not to play them. "I believe that operating system and store manufacturers shouldn't be trying to force their views on other people. We certainly won't." Sweeney's comments were responded to by another user who asked what the difference is between this policy and Epic Games' policy against content that is discriminatory and obscene. Sweeney explained that this was due to "editorial and branding judgments" and believes that Epic has made the decision "to draw a line between accepted norms." A few users of the PC gaming subreddit have expressed their displeasure with Sweeney's stance. Minecraft This is despite the fact that Epic CEO John McDonnell has been vocal about NFTs in the past. Sweeney posted publicly a copy of a September 2021 email response in a tweet response. The message stated that "We aren't tackling NFTs since the whole field is currently involved in an uncontrollable mix of scams , interesting decentralised tech foundations and frauds." Now Sweeney is open about his belief that developers who use the Epic Game store should have the choice to pursue these integrations if they want, however. He said in a follow-up tweet that "Crypto is a complex.
