Here's a neat trick I learned a few months ago, that really helps when you post large pictures. I don't remember who I learned it from, nor where it was posted. I don't claim credit for it, I just thought I'd "repost" it with some illustrations, since the original post seems to be a bit hard to find.

Allright, here's the trick:

The maximum image width for the forum is 740 pixels. If an uploaded image is wider than that parts of it will be hidden by the margins, like this:

You'll have to open the image in another tab to see the whole thing, which can be a bit annoying. But there is a simple method to resize images, and still keep the larger version easily available.

When you upload a picture, something like this ends up in the area where you're writing your post:

Now bring up your calculator, and divide 740 with the "width":

Which in this case equals 0.74 (740/998=0.74148296593...)
Meaning that the width of the resized picture needs to be at most 74 % of the size of the original picture.
Multiply the percentage with the "height".

Which gives us 371 (or 371.482965... to be more precise). Enter this instead of the original height, and change the original width to 740.

This is what the picture looks like now:

Both the width and the height have been reduced to 74 %, and the picture fits perfectly within the margins of the forum, but if one wants to see it fullsized, one only has to open it in a new tab.

Thanks for watching! And thanks to the original poster of the trick, whoever you are!

The way to do a background is to make it separately from the characters and then load it first, with the figures loading on top. It's probably best if you finish each "layer" of character or background separately, and then don't do too much tweaking once you've put them together. Also, there is a glitch that means if you add a new load on top of an existing character, the bottom layer of the new character is layer 1, and the old character gets pushed into negative numbers, which is mildly annoying as you can't move anything down a layer below 1. All you can do is move things up, which thankfully seems to work fine.

Kaylin, I just saw your group shot tutorial and I'm going to give it a try. I created 10 themed characters I would love to group and though it sounds like it requires a lot of patience and time, your method seems like the way to go. The 2 trios I made I did one character at a time and kept shifting back & forth between them. Acchhh, what a headache! One thing I'm not sure of; do you save after each character added? Also, it seems to not work if there is a background, (I edited this post after a little experimenting). Assuming the first character was the very bottom layer, I tried to remove the background items from the second so I could see the first character, but nothing happened.

--Well, the EASIEST clothes to put on him would be to color the body itself as if it WERE clothes. It already has the look of the less-than-well-appreciated form-suggesting spandex/kevlar armor featured in several superhero movies. You would then look in Insignia Tech for basic shapes to cover such details as you don't want and downsize the hands, feet, and head a few percent. I usually type them in for a change below five percent.

More ordinary clothes would be started with multiple maskings, very good tutorials for which are listed throughout this thread and the 'how do I' thread. You would probably have to finish them with the same basic shapes or, as you get more skilled and familiar with the program, more innovative choices.

The same masking techniques are described well early in the custom pose threads, for example.
Good luck.
