A war memorial of the type that is in almost every British town and village:

An interstellar hitchhiker-type of alien. She's very attached to the jacket, after picking it up from an isolated corner of an otherwise-busy space station. Also very long-lived, and as such she's gained a sense of fashion that's a bit of a mish-mash, become rather crazy prepared (such as learning to keep a towel on her person at all times):

I may have been a little bit inspired by one or two elements of Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy (i.e. the thing about carrying a towel around).
