Angel fought the Marauders Harpoon and Blockbuster to give some of the Morlocks time to escape. Blockbuster broke his wings, then Harpoon pinned him to the wall by them. Due to his complications from his mutant physiology and some manipulation by his soon-to-be-former friend Cameron Hodge, The doctors amputated them to save his life. Angel then tried to commit suicide, but was kidnapped by Apocalypse. Apocalypse offered him new wings and brainwashed him to be his Horseman, Death. When the rest of X-Factor talked him down, they dubbed him Archangel. Clear as mud? Just to prove I have too much time on my hands, I give you the short version.

Mind you, that's a first impression going by the names and setup. But at least give "Invincible" a try.
