I have never read Watchmen, but from past experience of movies made from books I have read I can tell you the Movie is usually a disappointment when seen After reading the book first, A very good example is Eragon. It was a VERY good book ( at least in my opinion ) but the movie left way to much out for me to really enjoy it.

Another example ,, Although the Movie was a COMPLETE AND UTTER FLOP! Battlefield Earth is a very good and compelling read. Granted neither of those are Superhero related books, but they are example of the written art far outshining the movie adoptions.

My plan is to see the movie and think to myself the whole time “This is just a super-hero kung-fu movie, it is NOT Watchmen.” That’s the only way to stay sane, I suspect.

Seriously, I think the novel and the movie are going to be very, very different pieces of “art” and comparing the two of them will probably lead to madness.

I never heard about Watchmen until I heard about the movie. And after hearing all of the praise for the graphic novel, I got a copy this past Christmas. After reading it twice in a row, I agree that the movie will more than likely pale in comparison to the novel. It is so complex and I’m sure I’ll pick up on something new the next time I read it.

Also, Jeff made a good post about why Watchmen is a better fit in the comic medium as opposed to a movie, and I have to agree with him. Still, I’m going to shell out my money to see it in the theaters.

My question will be for those who see the movie first and then read the novel. Will the experience of reading the novel be cheapened by what they see in the movie, knowing full well what’s going to happen in the pages ahead?

Izzere a rumor about there being a Watchmen 2?
I mean, I’m with Alan Moore; “Good luck cramming this complex novel into almost two hours of film, suckers.”

Epic, in my opinion, is a 3-hour tour of audiovisual goodness, or a t.v. series (LOTR, Star Wars, Star Trek, Stargate, Batman anything, Spawn the nasty cartoon, etc.)

HOWEVER(!), I’ll be giving my money to the Watchmen Movie people for the same reason you are….

“…one of us! One of us..! One of us..!”
