I have to say, from the second I read the line about saluting geeks, I thought of a cover of AC/DC's "For those About to Rock," which went such as "FOR THOSE ABOUT TO GEEK, WE SALUTE YOU!" With some guy throwing the Star Trash funny hand symbol in the air. I know, kind of anti-climactic, and against the better part of your article... but then again, it did take imagination!

Consider also that as geeks we are ready to at least consider the possibility of the fantastic. Alien life, the supernatural, paranormal abilities, time travel, etc. while the other hairless apes are hiding in the bushes staring mutely at the unknown, the geek will reach out and try to make contact. the geek will be the first with an "out of the box" theory that answers the question. Of course he will also be the first one to be shot by the aliens disintegrator ray, or have his head explode- but thats the chance you take.
